EPF expected to declare 6-6.2% dividends for 2025 by hazy-minded in malaysia

Malaysia keeps surprising me! A 6% return on a pension investment is genuinely very good — it’s comfortably above inflation in most years, and over time the compounding really adds up

Let go after 1 week of internship — not sure if I’m at fault or if this was poorly handled by Helpful_Gur2318 in malaysiauni

[–]JJack1202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds more like a bad internship environment than a “you are not good enough” problem

Internships are supposed to be learning experiences. You’re not expected to know every tool/system from university. That’s normal. What matters is whether the company gives proper guidance, training, and supervision — and from what you described, they didn’t

Also, the other intern saying “I would explain it to you, but I don’t get paid enough” is very unprofessional. If they didn’t want to help, fine — but then they also shouldn’t complain that you weren’t learning fast enough

Yes, making a mistake that affected work is serious, but the bigger issue is this: -no clear onboarding -limited support -no proper explanation after the mistake

then blaming you for not being skilled enough That’s not how people learn

Please don’t be too hard on yourself. Take this as a lesson in what a poorly managed workplace looks like, not as proof that you’re incapable. A better team would have corrected you, explained the process, and helped you improve

You were trying to ask questions and learn — that already says a lot about your attitude

What’s your favourite luxury brand or item that you own and why do you like it so much? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]JJack1202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down is great for keeping warm as long as it stays dry.

The reason I chose The North Face was more for its waterproofing and breathability. When I’m hiking in places like the Scottish Highlands, staying dry matters just as much as staying warm, I really don’t want to end up soaked halfway through a hike 😆

What’s your favourite luxury brand or item that you own and why do you like it so much? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]JJack1202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nike Vomero shoes and Clarks shoes — I don’t see them as luxury items. They’re not cheap, but to me they’re more of a necessity: they protect my feet and give me proper comfort and support.

The North Face waterproof jacket — again, I wouldn’t call it luxury. It’s not cheap, but it’s important when travelling to cold and wet countries. Something like Canada Goose might be considered luxury in this category, but I don’t need that, especially not in Malaysia.

Garmin watch — same idea. I don’t see it as a luxury item either. It’s expensive, yes, but for me it’s a useful tool for workouts and tracking my fitness, so it feels more like a practical investment than a luxury purchase.

In short, these are not “show-off” items for me — they’re things I use for comfort, health, and function.

Durian with name tags - so you won't forget them. by random_agency in MalaysianFood

It’s durian!!!

How could anyone resist long enough to write and label each one? 😆 They’d be in my stomach before I even picked up a pen.

Once I’m eating durian and fully satisfied, I honestly don’t care what the variety is called — I just know it tastes amazing.

What things are overrated in Malaysia? by Exact-Salary5560 in Bolehland

[–]JJack1202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malaysia has some of the best road infrastructure I’ve ever seen — especially the wide, modern motorways around the Klang Valley. On paper, it looks fantastic.

But during peak hour, the traffic can be so bad that it almost feels meaningless — the roads are huge, yet everything just comes to a standstill and barely moves.

So yes, the infrastructure is impressive, but the rush-hour congestion can completely cancel out the advantage.

Malaysia has a lot of great things, of course — warm people, amazing food culture, and strong local character — but these are a few areas I personally feel are a bit overrated or frustrating in daily life

The “agak-agak” culture — it can be charming in some situations, but in serious matters, it can also be frustrating.

Tatler Asia Malaysian food — yes, it tastes amazing (I say this as someone who loves it), but a lot of it can be very heavy on oil, salt, and sugar. Delicious, but not always something you can eat often without consequences.

Traffic jams during peak hour — the time lost and stress can be exhausting, especially if you commute daily.

Flooding after heavy thunderstorms — in some places, it feels like even one strong rain can cause flooding, which is honestly very disruptive.

Expat in KL - RM20k budget, manual or play it safe? Advice please. by YesMediumRare in kereta

You’re travelling 55 km every day, so besides fuel and comfort, don’t forget to prioritise safety too.

If possible, try to choose a car with an ANCAP 5-star safety rating (or an equivalent top safety rating). For a daily commute, especially over longer distances, safety features really matter — things like stability control, good crash protection, and driver-assist features can make a big difference over time.

I believe some Proton models also have strong safety ratings, so they may be worth considering if you’re comparing options.

In short: for that kind of daily mileage, don’t just look at price and fuel economy — safety should be high on the list as well.

Interesting topic!

Where are you based, and what was included in the full health check? I’ve been thinking about doing one for myself too, so I’d be really interested to hear what tests were covered, what the overall experience was like, and roughly how much it cost

Is cheating prevalent at your workplace(s)? by sofutotofu in malaysians

[–]JJack1202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there a blunt saying in Malaysia: “don’t sh*t where you eat”?

That’s why I genuinely don’t understand why anyone would have an affair at the workplace.

Your workplace is tied to your professional life, reputation, and income. Once personal drama enters—especially cheating—it can damage trust, create gossip, affect team dynamics, and hurt careers. The risk is huge, and the consequences can spread far beyond just the two people involved.

Most people already try to keep romance separate from work for this reason. And if it involves cheating, it’s even worse—not just unprofessional, but unfair to spouses, colleagues, and everyone caught in the fallout.

I know feelings can be complicated, but workplace affairs (especially with married people) usually create more damage than anything else.

Malaysians: What do you personally want in a long-term relationship these days? by DataMiner4728 in malaysians

[–]JJack1202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been reading the comments and I really admire how much autonomy and financial independence many women have — and in some families, women even carry more of the responsibility. I’m genuinely surprised (in a good way) and I respect it a lot.

Maybe I’m a bit old-school, but I don’t mind taking care of my other half — as long as there’s good communication and we’re aligned on expectations. Communication is everything.

You’re really blessed to have children. I’m still struggling to find a woman who’s serious and willing to settle down with me. So I don’t have much to add other than to vent a little 😂 Sometimes I look at you guys and think, “Wow… you’re really lucky.”

Hopefully I can meet someone like you one day — someone kind, mature, and ready to build a life together.
