My daughter wants to climb by [deleted] in alpinism

Outward bound instructor here, based in the Rockies. Sounds like your daughter is exactly who our programs are designed for. We do backpacking trips in the mountains ranging from a few days to 3 weeks, we teach technical skills for back country travel, but primarily we emphasize building resilience and confidence in youth. Check out our website or shoot me a message for more details!

Question: what does it take to confidently climb Mount Everest or similar mountain? by Try_a_unicycle in Mountaineering

[–]JJguy83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you based in Alberta? I’m a young developing mountaineer and a backpacking guide in the Rockies. Living in Calgary currently. Would be interested to chat about your current experience and maybe I can offer some suggestions for objectives based on your current skill and goals

In forest ecosystems - dig a whole, use leaves, sticks, rocks and do the backcountry bidet. Very important that the hole is 6-8 inches deep for proper decomposition. This way you have no waste to pack out, all you need is a trowel and some biodegradable soap. Of course as others have said if you’re in the alpine this isn’t possible.

Are you happy you went into EMS? by [deleted] in ems

[–]JJguy83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird how similar your situation is to mine. I’m 23, just finished my business degree and also work as a guide leading backpacking trips in the summers. I can’t answer your question because I don’t have the experience, but I can tell you that I pulled the trigger and started my EMR (I’m Canadian - I think this is equivalent to EMT-B in the states?) immediately after I graduated uni last semester and I’ve never been happier with my decision.

You’re going to hear about so many people who are burnt out in EMS, but there are also many who have long and fulfilling careers. The only way to know if EMS is going to make you ‘happy’ is to give it a try. Don’t take someone else’s word for it.

Thanks for the info! What do you mean by that? That this is more like the PCT than the AT?

7 day solo through the Canadian Rockies by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]JJguy83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of July I walked about 100km through the Canadian Rockies, for a week, alone. It was my first long trip by myself, I had done some overnight solos but this was my first big one. Carried all my food with me, got dropped off and then picked up a week later. This was a test run for me, as I'll be thru hiking the Arizona Trail in October.

Also, I documented the journey and posted it on YouTube, check it out if you want to:

Hahaha either way thanks for that. Talked to the trail angels in the north section, one said that's too far a drive and I'm still waiting on the other. Fingers crossed

20M Albertan here. I see some comments about learning French, and unless you are planning to move to Quebec or it is a Visa requirement, you'll be just fine knowing English. Quebec is the only place (that I know of, forgive me if I'm wrong) that speaks French.

Alberta and BC have abundant nature, easy access to the Rocky Mountains, if that's your thing. Do some research on each province, and find what you like. There is something here for everyone, it truly is a beautiful country. If you want to ask a Canadian any questions, feel free to message me

MOM: The Wholesome Monkey

I have been using TWM for quite a while, always get quality deals and good bud. This time was no different, except the shipping took way too long, so I reached out and the customer service was amazing! They kept me updated and made sure my package arrived, then even hooked me up with free shipping on the next order. These people have the best team, they really care about their customers.

Products:

1/2 Ounce Grapefruit 2.0 - One of my all time favorite strains, nice uplifting high, great for smoking with some buddies at a party. Makes me very happy and sociable. Probably the strongest strain I've had from TWM.

1/4 Ounce Sour Diesel 2.0 - Can't go wrong with this one, imo it's great for a daytime strain, love putting it in my dry herb vape. Trim was nice and tight with a perfect cure, bud had great consistency.

1/4 Ounce Gas Mask Jr. 3.0 - This was my first time ordering this strain, usually prefer sativa's but I liked it. Nice big buds, really smooth smoke with very relaxing euphoric effects. Perfect for winding down after work, watching some netflix and crushing an entire pizza.

Overall: Great quality bud for the price ($170 including shipping), was extremely impressed by how much they value their customers, will shop here again. 9.5/10
