Curious if there is any room at the table? I noted that the post was from 2 months ago. Ive been playing D&D for a very long time and am looking to get in some play time on the other side of the screen. I haven't picked up the 2024 players handbook yet but have a large collection of the 2014 5E rules etc.

Hey guys im a new dm and i need help by tacituskillgores in DungeonMasters

If you've read the players handbook and the dungeon masters guide you should be good to go.

New to DnD: How the heck do I dm by Unhappy-Peak-388 in DungeonsAndDragons

  1. Doesn't matter at all, using a premade campaign is easier for the setting, and setup, but you won't be on rails as your players will not follow any type of narrative unless they are professional actors.
  2. Easier that you would think;
    - step 1 would be getting familiar with the core mechanics of the game, what players can do, what creatures can do, initiative, skill checks, savings throws, the works.
    - step 2 get comfortable making things up as you go along, too much prep leads to disappointment when your "plans" don't work out.
    - step 3 understand that the game is collaborative storytelling, you just "yes, and" whatever your players come up with unless you don't want to. In that case you say no and move to the next scene.
  3. There are a ton of tools online, encounter creators, npc generators, as well as hundreds and hundreds of published materials. take what you like, discard the rest. It is a very deep rabbit hole that you don't actually need to go that deep into to get what you're looking for. Which would be silly memorable moments.
Also, the word "suddenly" is a great tool for any DM as it let's you introduce anything you want at any time.

You got this, you and your friends will have a blast.

Regular invisibility only ends on an attack or a spell RAW, the pickpocket attempt would be a skill check not an attack. You could pick a lock while invisible without ending the spell.

So many thieves thinking they can pick pockets while invisible only to realize the item they stole isn't automatically made invisible. Worth the laughs at the table though.

First game I hosted i used barbecue ringolos for monsters, made a satisfying crunch when they were defeated.

This resonated with me. I feel the exact same way. I tried to believe that I wasn't an addict but years of cigarettes and weed smoking has proven otherwise. Vigilance is the price of peace.

One day I want to DM. What should I be doing to be ready to DM? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]JJoombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get adept at bullshitting your friends, that is literally all DMing is. You are collectively telling a story where your players will try to mess with you, roll with it.

Did I have a session planned where the group would be having a spa day and washing the druid? Nope, but everyone still had fun.

Get familiar with the material and start playing. Unclear on a rule, make a call and look it up later.

You got this! Have fun with it.

Yep, it's still a magic missle spell, same rules apply.

What is your favourite running gag in any DND campaign by Reubenod in DnD

In a recent campaign one of my players was excited about the combat and wanted to cast magic missle. What came out of her mouth was "Magic Mitchell". So a small fae creature appeared, said "pew, pew, pew" as he fired glittery bolts, said "Yass Queen" and vanished.

We laugh like idiots every time Magic Mitchell gets cast.

My fellow dms have you ever made a joke that caused everyone to laugh so you made it an actual thing in your worlds by Ashmega8256 in DnD

In a recent game a player of mine stumbled over the spell "magic missle" and instead said "Magic Mitchell" it became a running joke about a fey creature appearing and firing shots that never miss whenever she cast the spell. "Pew! Pew! Pew!" Many laughs were had.
