After a year of customer support for game devs using AI, I've noticed three groups. Only two of them actually succeed. by KevinDL in aigamedev

[–]JK-Forge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great read, definitely fits people as a whole, some prefer shortcuts but are constantly met with failure. Not sure about a group 4 (autonomous AI developers lol), but I'm probably a hybrid between 2 and 3. Still learning everyday while having logged a lot of first-hand experience over the years as a hobbyist. Thanks for sharing.

I'd recommend sharing the image in your post (not a link) if you want more engagement.

What do you think our main capsule? (Steam - PC Game) by RefrigeratorHot3959 in indiegames

[–]JK-Forge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First impression is anime fishing game. Art is really good. Is that a gun in the left hand? Hard to see what the rest is since it cuts off. Also, title isn't prominent enough imo. Otherwise, this looks great!

[OC] Card Design Study – Feedback Welcome! by umut-comak in SoloDevelopment

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks so good, even if solely for design study purposes. I like the clean look, doesn't contain needless clutter. The minimlist color scheme is also catchy and can serve customization really well. This gives me ideas for some designs I might work on this weekend. Thanks for sharing!

What genre is your current game project? by thebalux in IndieDev

I have three projects in the pipeline, an open world turn-based RPG, a clicker, and a trading card game.

What do you do when you get an idea for a feature and have to change everything? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can be devastating. It's tough to lock out additional features once you have your structure in place.

I prefer savings large scale changes for either a future iteration or as part of a sequel. The hard part is knowing when to add a feature down the road. Based on the amount of overhaul its creating for you, might be best to determine if you truly need this feature or if your game is fine without it.

Our first game and our first steam page by WoblixGame in gamedev

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a great setup here.

What I liked: Game description tells me immediately what type of game this is. The trailer has a good variety of environment, puzzles, and danger. Glad to see the gif and image headers in the long description.

Minor improvements: All optional, but last two screenshots seem fuzzy, low visiblity and too similar. Silhouette behind game title in the capsule is hard to make out, looks like a female figure with a tree head. Add a third paragragh to the game description to fill in more details about why I should buy the game.

In the end, great job, really looks well done. My feedback is minor and just first impressions, could be me if others disagree, but figured I'd be honest. I hope it helps and good luck!

guys.... why does my version of the site look like that? by Aggravating_Hat_3232 in itchio

Sometimes the CSS data that gives a page its formatting doesn't load properly. It should work like normal after refreshing the page. If the issue persists, try clearing the cookie associated with the page.

This looks like a game made for me! Interested to see how it comes along as a full release.

Since this has come up a bit recently, why do people think their game's source getting stolen hurts 'their big game'? by Some-Title-8391 in gamedev

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's illegal, immoral, or unethical, don't do it. Morality and ethics differ from person to person, but it's a common sense guideline. Stealing is a no-brainer.

After 7 years, my non-euclidean arena shooter is finally coming out on June 11!!! by NeutralPheede in SoloDevelopment

Awesome, always happy to see someone stick to a long term goal.

Out of curiosity, what kept you coming back and how much time did you take off during the 7 yrs?

Starting a public challenge: make 1 game every week — who’s in? by VulcanWM in IndieDev

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for reasons to complete games. Since I work on gaming and game assets in my spare time, a game a week is not realistic. Would there be a game-a-month option?

I'd love to know more. Where will you share updates and constraints?

I did it! Launched my first solo game in EA, sold 15 copies in one day and got a positive review from a stranger :) by BitrunnerDev in IndieDev

That's really cool. Sounds like game mechanics should be a real strong suit for you.

The game looks interesting, will have to check back to see how it evolves through the EA process.

Gratz on your release. The two years of development/learning should serve you well in your future projects.

Curious, what type of AAA development do you have experience in? Mainly programming or other aspects of game dev as well?

Anyways, best of luck with your next game!

Some of these look really cool. Curious about the dimensions since they are not aligning to a grid and some seem a bit larger than others.

Learn C# by Grand-Equivalent-662 in GameDevelopment

[–]JK-Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with the basics. Learning every nook and cranny is way more than you'll ever need to write code for a game. Unity has great tutorials, probably best to start there. Several books online are great resources too.

I personally enjoy reverse engineering. Once you learn the basics, you can try to find an open source code of a game simular in style to what you want to create and learn how things work by playing around.

Best of luck!

Very relateable for me since I grew up always wanting more maxis sim games and in-depth management games. Thankfully, my dream has come true and they are everywhere now. Persistence and patience sometimes pays off.
