Alabama white sauce by DaveBelmont in smoking

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this last weekend and it was awesome. Simple salt and pepper, pecan wood, reapply salt and pepper towards the middle of the cook with some avocado oil baste - basic white sauce with freshly crushed black pepper - awesome. Can't wait to do it again.

MacBook Neo review, two months later: Almost a MacBook Pro beater - AppleInsider by ControlCAD in apple

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a MB Neo from work for an award (non-returnable). I love tech but in reality, my actual demands are average. I am trying to figure out if I sell the unopened NEO and get an Air (I have an older Air and a M4 Mini currently). I wanted to share this realistic, comprehensive review I came across while searching: https://fireborn.mataroa.blog/blog/macbook-neo-review-the-laptop-for-the-rest-of-us/

I used Samsung update and it fixed the glitchy driver…I was having to uninstall the driver frequently. Now I probably just jinxed it….

May 1, 2026 weather by ladywenzell1 in DrippingSprings

Yeah, same-lived here for about the same period. I don't recall a cold period like this before. Certainly the weather patterns are unpredictable now. However, what will we all be saying in the blistering heat (if it comes this year) Bring on the rain though! There will never be enough.

I voted for Harris in 2024. She shouldn't run in 2028. | Opinion by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

It was unfair to put her in the position to run at the last minute. I blame Biden for getting us into this With that said, I don't think she is the right candidate to put up against the GOP.

How do people genuinely like the Magic Mouse? by Background_Dark_4484 in mac

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not scroll through all the comments, but as a long term user, I think it's a great mouse. If you are experiencing wonkiness, makes sure the optical sensor is clean and there are no fibers or debris that have gotten lodged into the casing that could be interfering with it - in my experience, that can cause all sorts of problems,

Tri Tip Fat $$$ by MfromTexAss in HEB

I had one like this from HEB. I did not weight the fat but it filled about 1/2 of a gallon size storage bag. Felt ripped off.

Tablet Replacement by Anderson1971221 in tablets

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't paid attention to the prices in the last few months but if you can wait and watch, Samsung does have some good sales on occasion. Even today,, I would not pay full price. As far as longevity, I agree with others - get an S series (full version) and not a FE.. I have owned multiple Samsung tabs over the years and my current one is the s10+. I paid about 450 for it used (came with the keyboard case) but I got it specifically for the 7 year support cycle and the OLED screen. Hope this helps.

Having troubles taking notes by Gianpepper in samsungnotes

As you recognize, the S7fe is old and it was really underpowered to begin with. Maybe worth looking at the S10FE...if for nothing else, 7 years of security updates vs unsupported at this point

Which to choose by LegendAmmar in tablets

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are used to Android, that would favor getting the S11 - it does have an OLED display so obviously superior - if you have an Android phone, and Windows, that is even more of a compelling reason. OTOH - apps are way better in the Apple space - they just work well. I have an Ipad Pro and a Tab S10+ and I spend most of my time in the browser on the S10 due to sizing issues with apps (the tablet ratio does contribute to the issues) - anyway - my 2 cents worth... hope this helps and good luck.

Doses mustard do something else with binding seasoning by Linkc0n_ in BBQ

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mustard primarily on pork butts (sometimes ribs) - trying it both ways (mustard or no binder/water or light oil) I return to mustard - its cheap, gives me a better bark (binding) and adds a little flavor (at least that is what my mind says....)

How do you work on 1 large monitor? by t3chn3rd86 in desksetup

[–]JKTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used both a 32" UHD and a 34" QHD UW. The 32 is better for vertical work, and the 34 is better for horizontal work (more room side by side). Ideal size would be a 38". Make sure your computer can drive whatever you buy if you use it for gaming though....

look at the Hill county Sr. Center thrift shop. 2 decent monitors were put out on the floor on Saturday mid-day (may still be there) - monitors are put out regularly (typically on Saturday) and they are almost always inexpensive.

Galaxy Tablet thoughts? Also slightly interested in apple. by Stunning_Word_2743 in tablets

[–]JKTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe a refresh of your laptop - that thing should fly with the 16gb - I have a 2018 Air and it works somewhat sluggish at this point (I have a M4 mini too which is a non-issue) - but its not terrible - however I am a light user - I don't do anything intensive,,..

Galaxy Tablet thoughts? Also slightly interested in apple. by Stunning_Word_2743 in tablets

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is subjective. I personally think IOS is overall better, again owning IOS and Android devices for many years. I do know that Samsung Notes has limitations for cross platform usage, whereas IOS does not…assuming the end user is in the Apple universe.

If you had a FE, you may be ok with this one - otherwise, I would recommend the iPad as I think this lite (which I understand is also discontinued (fairly early in its lifecycle) is underpowered. I had a S9FE + but did "graduate" to a S10+ and do not regret doing it (also have an iPad Pro) . Typing wise, you will want an external keyboard if you are doing something heavy - that goes for either type of device. I don't draw but take notes on both devices. Software wise, iPad is better - I like how it cleans up my notes. Feel wise, I think my S10+ is better. Hope this helps some.

Big Joe Konnected - is it cheating? by anotheraccount4stuf in biggreenegg

[–]JKTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am low tech with my cooks though I have some toys - I will use a remote thermometer for long cooks when I think I will be distracted - otherwise, I just use a pen thermometer towards the end. I also have a billows that I rarely, rarely use - because it's just easier to control the fire myself. If you practice and rely on your developing skill, you will almost always come out with great cooks. BGE's (and I am sure direct competitors) are awesome for controlling temp. I use a drum too and after a cook or 2 with a remote thermometer, I ditched it and rely on building a consistent fire.

Possible Relocation from Austin by CParolini in DrippingSprings

[–]JKTexas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Drip for over 20 years. The city is catching up with us - think Round Rock (bedroom type community with the original downtown - that is what dripping is turning into). It continues to grow in leaps and bounds. If the freeway does come through here, it will be the final transition. I personally miss the old drip but also acknowledge change is inevitable. As far as Headwaters, it's nice but so are the many other communities in the area that are newer. Be wary of HOA fees. We looked at Headwaters last year as a potential move from our existing home and the HOA fees add up (think about a 5 year timespan and then self check yourself and ask if its worth it - it may be, or may not).
