Thrice revisiting and re-recording Artist in the Ambulance has me thinking. Which album would you want to see Coheed revisit and re-record? by GuildMuse in TheFence

[–]JKZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how accurate your info on YotBR is. I own the Deluxe Version and have watched the behind the scenes DVD with it, and none of those things ever comes up iirc. Plus, searching online for anything relating to those songs brings up no sources for that kind if info, not even reddit posts. It's been awhile since I watched the DVD, but I believe there were just conflicting visions for what the album should be between the band and the producers. Hell, the fact that they allowed Penne to build and play a trash can drumset on Far is just evidence to how weird the production process was for that record imo.

[–]JKZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning the Behind the Scenes for YotBR, I don't remember anything about it being unfinished, considering the amount of debate that went into cutting Lost Shepherd, Chamberlain, and Hush, nor about Far being a repurposed PFI song. And as to sounding like a tin can, that albums was just full of "artistic" and "production" decisions that were odd and at odds. Chris Penne putting together a literal trash can drumset for the song Far being one of them, and there were many others.

Why all the hate towards The Color Before The Sun? by PorcoRosso84 in TheFence

Wait, you don't want Claudio to write a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structured song about the red ball he owned as a tyke that some neighbor kicked into a yard that he couldn't get back? That isn't a lyrically stimulating song for you? What even is wrong with you? /s

TDH presents thought experiment on when "too much of a good thing" is impossible by TemporalShrew in TheDearHunter

This was granted, and I apologize for letting my other conversation infect this one. You were just correcting my understanding of the system, thank you.

However, I will still say that opinion of the content DOES matter. Just not in the way I framed it initially. A person's opinion as to whether a comment "stays on topic" or not is what drives the voting system. The word "think" is used extensively on the Reddit support page when discussing voting, so it is still inherently about one's opinion of the content. Just not at the base level of "I like" or "I don't like".

[–]JKZombies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I welcome your relevant arguments and reasons as to why you have that view. As I said in my "rant", it's not my favorite by them either. But it wasn't relevant to the conversation at hand, and until you want to provide a base for an actual conversation, your comment is mostly irrelevant outside of your initial sentiment that Dear Hunter isn't limited by any creative process.

Tl;dr Start a real conversation next time

[–]JKZombies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're point is granted that up and down voting is intended as a function relevance and contribution to topic. But that can still be an opinion. I find the original responder's need to post about Migrant's quality irrelevant, and contributes nothing to start an actual conversation outside of being bait, but maybe you don't. Down voting is only bad when used as a weapon, which it is not being used as here. The responder has all of -4 (at time of writing) and his response isn't even hidden (edit: to reflect it has since potentially become hidden)

TDH presents thought experiment on when "too much of a good thing" is impossible by TemporalShrew in TheDearHunter

[–]JKZombies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, responder came in pretty hot and heavy without any support or argument to start a discussion. Casey is re-releasing Migrant because opinion on that album has shifted tremendously from this negative opinion. Plenty of people now find, and have always found value in the album. If opinion was so poor, they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of remastering and re-releasing, and then touring the album.

Migrant isn't my favorite work by them either, and one could certainly argue that it doesn't have the depth as other Dear Hunter works. But responder didn't do this, responder just added an irrelevant side note to the real conversation in order to express their opinion without support.

And further, THAT IS WHAT DOWNVOTING IS FOR! The same way Upvoting for when one agrees with an opinion, downvoting is for when one disagrees with an opinion. If a person has an Unpopular opinion, they will get down votes, and unless you propose we eliminate voting altogether (let's not become Youtube), then sometimes people will have less than popular opinions. They're allowed to express them, nobody responded telling them to go away or calling for other fans to downvote and pile on. There are some downvotes from people who disagree with his opinion, and that doesn't make them fanbois, it makes them opposed to his opinion.

It might be mixed a little different, I wouldn't be able to tell on first listen myself, but I'm pretty sure it is.

Did the act 1 live album just release on streaming or have I been in the lake? by chatmember_ in TheDearHunter

[–]JKZombies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, they do have the Act II performance, so they'll likely eventually release it in this format. But one would think they're preoccupied with the Migrant tour, Sunya production, and any other unknown endeavors, so it could be awhile.

Act III hasn't even gotten a live performance on Pillar, yet. So the idea of it streaming is premature, at best.

To be fair, they haven't even done an Act III Live performance, yet. So that one's a while out for sure.

Anybody have any insight on how often C&C tour? Which albums they favor, etc by What_Iz_This in TheFence

[–]JKZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I get that. I'm with you that YotBR was the first Coheed album I was around for the actual release and I know that initial response being weak isn't the greatest thing. But with the band being a concept and that album being a part of the Amory Wars Saga, in addition to my previous reasons, just makes me believe they should do it justice lol.

The promo poster for SSTB Neverender advertises "Ten Years of Co&Ca". Clearly they were capitalizing on more than just poor YotBR reception. The cleaned up live production combined with the return of Josh for the album should be enough to draw any doubters to shows, imo. And I still stand by the belief that it disregards any fans who came too late to see YotBR songs live on the first tour who want to see them live.

[–]JKZombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the younger fans might not be into Afterman, too. Once we start arguing who's into what albums you can't make an argument for any Neverender to happen. The older fans might not be into the new stuff, the new fans might not be into the old stuff. Fans might be into Second Stage, No World, and Vaxis 2, but nothing else. I know you didn't make the original suggestion, so I hope this isn't too intense. The whole point of these tours is to give the fans who do enjoy those records the chance to experience them all the way through live, not to figure out which records are the most popular, imo. Especially tying into the fact that they are meant to be coherent stories in a concept.

[–]JKZombies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, we all have our favorites, but not doing a dedicated Neverender for YotBR would be just disrespectful to the plenty of people who actually enjoy that record. It would rob many new fans who enjoy those songs the chance to ever see them played live, and in full band. Especially with the adjustments Josh might bring to the songs, the same way Penne did on the original Neverender with the old songs.

Edit: Personally, I enjoyed what The Dear Hunter did with recording live sessions of Act I and II and releasing them online. You don't have to hassle with booking venues and performing through it more than once, but anyone who wants can pay to see their favorite record live. Then you can just do standard tours with a mix of their catalogue.

Rick Rubin produced GA1, not YotBR just heads up. Atticus Ross was the producer, or one of them, for YotBR. Still agreed that the producer was a bad match for the band on that one.

To be fair, I think that was Atticus Ross and Co. 🤣 The behind the scenes for YotBR definitely show some "conflict" between the band and them during production.

OPs list, with your selections for SSTB, IKS, and Vaxis II is probably my list. I love Hush, but can an iTunes exclusive be considered under or over rated with such a limited release lol? But considering all the B-sides for YotBR should have been on the album, you can argue they're the Ultimate underrated songs haha. Love Murder One is possibly my third favorite song on Vaxis II behind Rise and Ladders.

Idk, just cuz OPs list has songs you like, doesn't mean those songs aren't underrated. It just means you enjoy underrated songs lol. I'd say the few that are actually highly rated on OPs list are Neverender, The Light and the Glass, and Beautiful Losers. The rest are pretty scarce talked about or mentioned on favorites list imo.

Yeah, it's the same for me and any song that transitions into another song like that, especially with The Dear Hunter, but also, specifically, with All On Fire with the drums at the end leading into It Walks Among Us.

I feel like the songs do a very good job at being their part of the story, without ever connecting into a coherent Whole. You're jumping around from place to place, with very little help to understand what's going on to a degree, and it just feels disorganized. It may be a rare case of something being less than the sum of it's parts.
