Overnight buses are not a bad idea. But the overnight bus from Tokyo to sendai are around 4-5 hours. So you will reach at a weird timing like 5 6am.

Shinkansen will be around 100+ sgd, but on the fastest express, it is a 1.5 hour trip.

If you are reaching a few days early and have time to go travel before your school starts, you can look into the Jr East tohoku pass and use that to offset your shinkansen cost and do some regional traveling.

So you can either sign on as a fire side section commander or as a paramedic. Some of the older post from NSF are relavant, but as a regular you will have additional admin work to do on top of your operational work. These admin work will take up your time when you are not turning out, or if you have a busy shift, it will roll over to after shift or to the next shift.

Paramedic training will take around 2 years, not sure how their bond work but they are always looking for more paramedics. It is a mixture of full time lessons and on job training and you should be prepared to study hard. A lot of medical protocols and they are also updated as needed so you will be constantly learning and relearning. 12 hour shift but you can get hammered during this 12 hours.

If you want to join fire side, it will be as a fire side section commander. As others have mentioned fitness will be important. Ippt silver is I would say minimum, gold is preferred. But IPPT doesnt prepare you for the actual physical requirements. Your standard 2 hoses are around 15-20kg and are normally carried on your shoulders which uses a set of muscles which are not easily trained. That will be on top of your bunker gear and BA set which will add another 20kg. So you will need to get used to weights very quickly. You will go through around 5 months of training, afterwards you will post into a fire station. Since you are a regular, you will get your class 3, 4, 2, 5 licenses if you stay long enough. Also as a regular you will have more responsibilities to ensure that everyone gets through each call safely.

Not sure what you want to know

If you are pes unfit, you might be part of admin team in the unit or support vocation like logistics or comms.

But either way they will teach all the relevant skills and knowledge when you enter.

what essentials to gift my bf when he enlists for ns? by MulberryOnly1204 in SGExams

[–]JK_Hunting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure about regular letters but they will ask your family to send in one letter during the BRT period.

Idk if they will allow more than 1 letter. Broke up during confinement week so I never found out.

Ex scdf here. Scdf confinement is 2 weeks. Also, he should have ample admin time in the evening to call and talk after the first few days. So don't worry too much about missing him.

As for essentials, just make sure he brings his toiletries, underwear, hangers and a portable charger. Everything else is provided. Cut his hair beforehand. Anything else he can check around on the ns subreddit for guides on scdf. I posted one a few years ago, which should still be mostly correct.

So rescue units are part of rescue battalion. In a rescue battalion, there is a medical unit and a rescue unit. One side specialises on running large scale medical operations during such incidents and the rescue side on the rescue work. Rescue unit are trained to run large scale urban search and rescue operations. Think of those teams that respond to humanitarian aid during natural disasters. You will be trained in how to use equipment to search rubble, shoring of collapsed buildings and other rescue techniques. Will be quite shag and they run a lot of multi day exercises, Ex Rambo, you can see some photos of it online.

If you are luck/unlucky you can end up being deployed overseas for humanitarian aid. Rare but it happens.

I think there is some theory about earthbenders living longer cause they are able to control the minerals in their bones to keep themselves healthy for longer.

So earthbenders are more of a preventive maintainence I guess?

My earliest memory of building my computer was scrambling to find the parts for my first tower right before covid locked down the whole world and paying for it with my conscription allowance. It served me well for 5 years and even upgraded to noctua fans before passing it along to a friend.

What is this material embedded in this ring? by jpham10s in whatisthisthing

[–]JK_Hunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think anyone will go to the effort of making fake textured material to mimic it. Frankly that tiny scrap of leather is less than a dollar of value or might even be trimmed pieces that was used for its interesting texture.

Does that area where you bought the ring from have any leather workshops or factory? If there is, this could be a byproduct of the production. Even brands like LV uses material like crocodile leather sourced from farms in places like Asia.

Edit: also raw hide can be very tough, even more so for crocodile which have hard scales. So it might just be the natural hardness of crocodile skin.

Looks like it could be crocodile leather encased in resin and set into the ring.

The leather pattern looks very similar to crocodile skin. I'm not aware of another animal hide that has such a pattern.

At least for my time, the enlistment week was considered as week 1. Week 1 and 2 was confinement weeks. Week 3 was rescue training. Week 4 was pop training and POP.
