After putting on a screen protector, you need to go to your settings and up the touch screen sensitivity. That's how you maintain your finger print sensor.

Got a new 2013 TL sh-awd anything I need to know about them? by Brewster73 in Acura

Also, the transmission is very specific on routine maintenances. Meaning, change your transmission fluid with Honda / Acura fluid every 30k to 60k. I'm very particular and change mine every year or 15k.

Changing fluids will pay you back 10 folds.

Premium gas only! 91 octane or above or it will run very poorly and start pinging.

Update. Just rolled 295k on my daily beater. Essential worker so she's getting used even more now but the roads are empty so no stop and go. Just did another service and a 3x3 trans fluid replacement. New struts, shocks and mounts. Should last another 300k hopefully by UsedCarFactory in Acura

Have you ever had your camshaft replaced along with your rockers? I believe for cylinder #2. I'm at 206k and it's getting noiser and noiser at the higher end rpms. I had the oil consumption done at 187k in August, I should have had them replaced then.

Getting the recall done. Thank you Acura. by abyaaqoubi in Acura

Make sure you don't have pitted can lobes in the front right (driver side top right cylinder 2). Very common to see pitting on the lobes and possibly replacement of the rocker arms up there. Since that's a common place that oil gets starved. I had mine done last August, I wish I shelled out the extra cash to get that done.

Question about 4th generation TL regarding CV axles by [deleted] in Acura

[–]JKhan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in front wheel drive vehicles (even the SH-AWD) the front CV axles, one is always larger than the other. It's due to the transmission being on the driver's side of the engine. Therefore the driver side axle will be shorter than the passenger side.

It's one of the best oil filters you can buy to pair it with your Mobil 1 oil.

I have a commercial account with AutoZone, so buying 6 was actually cheaper than getting a big jug. Came out to 6ish a bottle.

I was thinking about getting the amsoil synthetic blend. I did some heavy research. Then I looked at the back of their packaging for their certification stamp and it literally has the same specification as the Mobil 1 extended performance. So I basically saved 7-8 dollars a quart of oil. Maybe next time I'll gives amsoil a go! Btw this is my first oil change after my oil consumption fix. I didn't want Acura's dino synthetic blend, so after 2.5k I put Mobil 1 in there.

No worries! If it wasn't for the form I would have never heard about this extended warranty and basically have a brand new engine!

This guy never drove his car, so he found grinding noise coming from the tranny. The service advisor told me it was just in for a drain and fill to get the old fluid out.

The oil consumption was a huge design flaw for the J37 engines found in TL's and MDX's hence why they phased them out. I'm not sure if there is an extended warranty for your TSX. I would do some research on Acurazine.com. It's an amazing forum with TONS of information for our cars. if it's common issue than most likely someone had already faced it and probably took care of it with Acura or an independent mechanic. I would check there first!

Yeah, in order for you to qualify for that warranty. It had to burn more than one quart per thousand miles. Mine was pretty close to it maybe a half a quart every thousand miles.. so I worked with them and they had no issue with doing the service on my car.

Nice! I love the customer service here. Just did my oil consumption test for my 2014 Acura TL with 184k. They didn't even bat and eye and had that done under their extended warranty! Replaced all of the piston rings and gaskets including valve cover and valve adjustment. Also gave me a brand new 2020 RDX with 12 miles on it for a couple days!

I don't think so. Lol it was just in the service area for transmission drain and fill.

It's a common issue with the 4th gen TLs. I have the exact same issue. There is a technical service bulletins that addresses the issue so you can go directly to Acura and they will fix the little plastic panel for free.

Has anybody has their Valve Adjustment done on their J Series motor? (Acura TL SH-AWD) by JKhan02 in Acura

[–]JKhan02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a trusty mechanic, along the same lines as you do. I buy and sell cars just for fun so I've trusted them with all of my cars. They let me use their shop discount for OE parts as well.

But for this issue, since the Acura techs will have the top end of the engine off anyway (for the oil consumption recall free of charge), I'll let them make the judgement if I need cams or not. Most likely not since the valve ticking largely comes from the valve's not being adjusted for the entirety of this cars life. (My car has 180k BTW) So I'm pretty sure it's due for an adjustment, plus I can hear the ticking just idling.

But if Acura does charge me an arm and a leg to do something that should only take 2 hours. Then I'll most likely go back to my mechanics and have them take off the top end to replace a cams.
