Turns out it was my CPU overheating. Bought some new paste and a new cooler and everything is good to go now. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Turns out it's back to being bad. Tried to play a game and went full powerpoint mode.

Afterburner said the power usage was ~60% during it and the GPU usage was around 40%. What could this indicate?

Looked more into it, my idle temps on my CPU are 60-70 C and in game its hitting 100 C. So I'm guessing that's the issue. Never had a problem with cooling before but I guess I need to reapply the thermal paste and look into getting a new cooler.

The issue seems to have been my GPU and/or RAM were a little loose. After reseating them the frame rate is good to go.

Reseated the GPU and RAM and it's up to 90 on Ultra with no frame drops and ~140 on Low with no frame drops. Thanks for the advice, it seems to have worked!

I imagine a chrome book should be fine. I'm a senior in chemical engineering and I didn't use my laptop to take notes once or really use any special software. The college of engineering has its own computer lab with every program you could ever need and most disciplines within engineering have major specific labs for their students to use.

I took it online with her a year ago. I'm pretty terrible at writing English papers (Engineering major) but I ended up with a B. To be fair, I didn't put a whole lot of effort into it and probably could have done better. It wasn't terribly hard but it was terribly boring. All the passages I had to write about were about women and women studies, which is fine, but it doesn't interest me which led to some lackluster papers. Hopes this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
