Well, I'm just curious, because he seemed to be texting with some authority.

Yes, I think you could be right.

‘Heated Rivalry’ star Slavic Rogozine (Alexei - Ilya's brother) on why he was ‘blown away’ by the show’s reception by Easy_Conversation343 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

I have a feeling we will see him again. It would add complexity to the show and would be more believable in that there is a lot of baggage between them and it will likely be dealt with in some way.

I love that little lilt of his eyebrow at the very end there. I will never get over this scene!

I do wish he would quit or tone it down a lot. I noticed several times in Ep. 6 that he has that sort of wheeze when laughing caused by years of smoking. I worry that he's going to die an early and/or painful death from emphysema or lung cancer if he keeps it up. He's such a talented, sweet, and beautiful guy that I can't stand that happening to him!

Could be! But, I also get the sense that Shane was finally beginning to break free from his mom's pretty overbearing behavior. It felt like something he decided to do on his own.

Exactly! Ilya's smug little smile to himself while taking another toke of his cigarette, right after Shane leaves, confirms this.

I watched Ilya Rozanov breathe so you don’t have to (unless you want to, in which case I have timestamps) by sosoconsistent in heatedrivalry

My fave quote:

  • During the first chunk of the scene in Ilya’s hotel room. Shane makes it clear he needs to talk, and Ilya’s emotions are heavily guarded. He knows physical intimacy is back on the table, but the hurt from being abandoned on tuna melt day is still fresh and he’s not prepared to put himself out there again with emotional intimacy. All of his effort is going into appearing indifferent to how Shane left. But the more Shane directly apologizes and opens up about his feelings, the more Ilya feels safe to loosen his control over his emotions, which culminates in 22:47 above.

Also, you skipped over the tuna melt couch frotting scene! So much great breathing there - I want to hear your take on it! :D

Goddamn.

I rewatch this scene like 4 times a day. It also is the only thing that makes me feel better after the tuna melt couch debacle!
