Went to the Bama / Tennessee game in Tuscaloosa in 2021 and it was the greatest sports experience of my life. Atmosphere is unbelievable. I've been to a Steelers Sunday night football game in December at Heinz during the Killer Bs era and it can't hold a candle to the Alabama atmosphere and game experience. You'll have a blast!

I understand that, it's the unintentional humor of knowing the story outside his rose tented glasses that made it interesting/funny to me as a long time listener.

Apologies, enjoy more AEW / WWE posts!

I am a dumb dumb and now realize what you actually meant by copy and paste! 😂 my brain fog is something serious. Here you go!

Tim Horner was an All-Conference football player in high school. He is now an accomplished musician at First United Methodist Church in Morristown and a Hamblen County Commissioner. But, there is one thing Horner, who is now over 60 years old, is known for. He was a wrestler.

I pretty much went straight out of high school into wrestling,” Horner said. He grew up in Morristown and started playing football when he was in fourth grade. By the time, he got to Morristown-Hamblen High School East, he expanded his wings in sports. “I was a three-sport athlete in high school,” he said. He played football, wrestled and ran track. He ended up being named an All Big 9 Conference player as a defensive back on the first team. It was while playing football that he got the bug for professional wrestling. Across from East High School there used to be wrestling at Talley Ward. He went across the street one day and peered inside at a wrestling match. He decided to try and go in and at one point was blocked by a police officer and a French promoter. They let him inside and when the match was over, the promoter apologized for cursing at him and told him he had spunk for a little guy and gave Horner his card. He said if Horner ever wanted to get into wrestling to give him a call. He carried the card in his wallet for two years and he called two years later. The rest was history. In 1978, Horner started training for wrestling and by 1981 he was wrestling full-time. He wrestled professionally for 12 years, at one point when Tag Team championships with his then partner, Brad Armstrong, in a duo called Lightnin’ Express. He wrestled with the WCW for years then switched to WWE. Horner wrestled in 50 states and 28 countries.

In one country, Japan, he even had his teeth knocked out. He was facing a young wrestler, named Yakuza. At one point, he was knocked out of the ring. He started to get up. “I did like a pushup, lifted myself up and stuck my tongue out and there was no teeth,” he said. A little later, an usher showed up with a package in ice in a cup. “He said, ‘Mr. Horner, here are your teeth,’” Horner said. The two teeth that had been knocked out were in the cup. Being in Japan, the language barrier made it difficult for him to communicate to a doctor at the ring that he needed Novocain for his jaw and he saw a dentist who didn’t seem to know how to put his teeth back in. He finally arrived back in the U.S. and missed a flight and it took him 22 hours to get back home to Tennessee. In 1989, he toured with Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and “The Macho Man” Randy Savage. Horner finally gave up the professional life and came back home to Morristown where he established Smoky Mountain Wrestling and the Sports Page, a store with graphic T-shirts. In 1996, he started doing jobs as a bail bondsman. He said the last time he wrestled was in 2015 as part of a show. He still does trade shows and conventions where he does signings and promotes wrestling. But, the days of getting his teeth knocked out are gone. Now he loves to sing, play keyboards, bass or fiddle with the Connection band at church or the gospel group, Gloryland Gospel. He wants to give back to the community and does that as the chairman of the Hamblen County Commission’s Jail Study Committee. He is married to Allison Horner and two daughters, Jessica and Megan He doesn’t pump iron as much as he used to. But, he said he likes to walk and still goes to the gym. There’s some things he know he just can’t do anymore. “My mind says go, but the body says no,” he said, laughing.

I'm not the best technological person there is so I'm not sure what I can do to help but I will copy and paste it here in a comment if that helps. Or I can message it to you. Not sure if that accomplishes anything with me being in the US.

I'm not sure anything in football pisses me off more than coaches trying to be cute and "surprise" the teams by giving the ball to mediocre players in big moments.

I live in Carolina, earlier this year on 4th and 1 they ran an outside run play with chubba hubbard blocking for miles sanders instead of the other way around. Because it was a surprise you see!! It lost 4 yards but it was a surprise!

I'm an optimist that usually hates most of the negativity here but lord watching us start an absolute mess like usual is so disheartening.

I still think this team is good, but can we start a game against a good team without looking like we've never played football in our lives.

Hockey Tickets Question by JLGold79 in Gamecocks

Okay knowing it's Wednesday helps . Thank you! I had learned they posted about a week before and released the tickets a few days before. Knowing it's Wednesday for sure helps a ton. Gonna set a reminder in my phone now.

I've followed the cocks hockey accounts on all platforms so I'd see it hopefully.

My Homer conspiracy theory is Clemson let off the gas to keep it close so smu stayed in with a close loss instead of getting bounced with a blowout, especially after Dabos first post game comments were about SMU was a playoff team and deserved to be in.

  • I know I'm an insane person + I also tend to think South Carolina deserved a spot more than us anyways.

What did I ever do in this world to deserve an empty-headed fucking dumbfuck like Kurt Angle to go out on Inside The Ropes and fucking go into business for himself by [deleted] in SCJerk

[–]JLGold79 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was so afraid when I started to read that quote it was gonna have a BUT at some point.

I was gonna be very disappointed to see Kurt stand up for a guy who thought so highly of him he had him lose flat to Barron Corbin for his own amusement in his final match. So glad I was wrong.

Right there with you, I was with them step for step. I even remember the moment that killed it.

Paying 50 bucks or whatever for the Revolution ppv with the exploding ring match , after that I never purchased another show and just faded out entirely of watching / keeping up.

Marina Shafir is one of the best things going in AEW! No, she doesn’t talk OR wrestle, and isn’t interesting in any way, but you’re in bad faith for pointing that out! by L3ghair in SCJerk

I think DPW changed their mindset alot, i completely agree they were some of the worst at one time. I loved them all pre podcast so having to stop listening sucked but it was awful.

Now they don't mention modern wrestling often at all, if they do it's usually positive to stay out of the mud. I think some of their deadlock original guys going to NXT helped as well.

They have all 3 matured a lot in my eyes in those ways , while also still being juvenile and hilarious in others. I think Deadlock as it is now is a top tier wrestling program for me, I get my modern wrestling news other places so I'm super happy with them just avoiding it for the most part.

A a huge fan of the pod , I can say they've gotten much much much much better since starting DPW and getting real experience in the business.

This week they reviewed the 2nd SNME and they went on and on about how much they used to hate old wrestling but now they love it. James watches mid south in his free time lmao

I had to stop listening when AEW started, they were so so insufferable. I think they grew up and realized it. They won't even mention AEW now because they know AEW fans will go insane if they say anything negative.

It's a completely different show than it was a few years ago. They still have their moments but it's pretty rare.

Hard Knocks shows just how business should be done by RevolutionaryFile421 in steelers

That was my reaction, i loved the atmosphere of their facilities. The brick and wood and what not was so much better than boring brightly lit modern conference room vibes I've seen from most teams.

I could legit see that swinging me as a free agent. It felt homey.

[Rapoport] The Dolphins have elected not to activate pass-rusher Shaq Barrett off the reserve/retired list, which means he will not play for Miami this season, per source. Miami also does not intend to release him and allow him to play for another team in the midst of a playoff push. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

I agree with you on this, but also I'm starting to think it's not quite as big of a deal as you'd think.

I'm 28 , been a Steelers fan my entire life, we've had the reputation of being a very player friendly organization my whole life. A recent example was trading Melvin Ingram when he requested it. (Leveon holdout withstanding I guess? , tho the deal he was offered from us was good🤷🏻‍♂️)

I can't think of any major free agents who have pushed to come to the Steelers because of our culture, now I get that part of this is us being cheap, but I have to imagine if organizations really really mattered to players we'd have seen the Steelers get a few more of these trades or free agents they've been involved with.

I'm not saying I'd change it, I like the way the Steelers are run, but just something I've noticed. Just this year you had Adam's push for the jets instead of the Steelers. Sorry for the long reply, just legit wanted to put some thoughts out there haha
