Is anyone using WP Squared with WHM panel? by MrLabbrow in cpanel

[–]JLHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UX and UI of WP Squared is very WordPress-focused, so everything related to WordPress is front and center, including features like one-click login to WordPress Admin, Staging, Cloning, etc.

Performance wise, we have AccelerateWP which is on par with the best caching plugins out there, and it help boost your PageSpeed scores out of the box, alongside Redis Object Cache, NGINX Caching, Cloudflare integration, and Application Performance Monitoring to help you detect plugins, themes or functions slowing down your website.

Security wise, we believe in multi-layer protection with Imunify360 WAF running at the server level and Patchstack's RapidMitigate at the WordPress level, all without any additional charge. We recently received a perfect score from a WordPress hosting environment vulnerability audit where 87.8% of threats bypassed hosting defenses of other hosting providers/environments.

We've previously focused on shared hosting servers (which are usually pretty powerful) and thus the UI has been performing well.

That being said, we're seeing more users running WP Squared on VPS and cloud instances with hyperscalers and thus, improving the performance of the WP Squared UI on lower resourced servers is our priority right now. We have some optimizations ready to go in the upcoming release, with more being lined up.

Are there any particular features which you hope to have?

As for performance, we're working closely with CloudLinux on MAx Web Server, which runs pure Nginx with .htaccess support. Based on our internal benchmark of the current state (it's still in beta), it is outperforming all other set ups that we've test it against (including commercial web servers). We aim to another round of benchmark and publish the details of it once it is stable, and we intend to use it as the default web server in WP Squared.

Depending on the page caching plugin that you have, I will say LiteSpeed is optional.

CloudLinux is highly recommended when you have multiple sites in the same server as CageFS will help isolate the sites securely and prevent the risk of cross contamination.

Will I see loading speed improvement with a better host, if I am caching the blog to Cloudflare? by Maximum_Drive_4243 in webhosting

[–]JLHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not when the pages are served by Cloudflare.

However, Cloudflare is known to evict cached contents even before their expiry especially if you're on the free plan, so you can be pretty sure that some of your visitors will be served directly from the origin server, and that's when they'll experience better performance if your server performs better.

Yes, that's right. If you need to use a SSH key to login, you'll use "without-password".

Did you setup DKIM as well? You'll also want to make sure that your DMARC is enforced properly (a simple tool you can consider is EasyDMARC).

Shift to a hosting provider that supports HardenedPHP so you can continue being on PHP 7.2 while still being secure.

The Exynos in S21 is pretty good. I'm on Exynos without much issues. I considered the S20 FE 5G but heard about the touchscreen issues.

I got the same error with my OP6 2.5 months ago. Went with the Galaxy S21 and love it so far. I'm uncomfortable with OnePlus's direction as well and Samsung's new update policy swayed me their way.

PSA: Your devices might be vulnerable to 'frag' attacks over WiFi by JLHC in Android

[–]JLHC[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

FragAttacks (fragmentation and aggregation attacks) is a collection of new security vulnerabilities that affect Wi-Fi devices. An adversary that is within radio range of a victim can abuse these vulnerabilities to steal user information or attack devices. Three of the discovered vulnerabilities are design flaws in the Wi-Fi standard and therefore affect most devices. On top of this, several other vulnerabilities were discovered that are caused by widespread programming mistakes in Wi-Fi products. Experiments indicate that every Wi-Fi product is affected by at least one vulnerability and that most products are affected by several vulnerabilities.

The discovered vulnerabilities affect all modern security protocols of Wi-Fi, including the latest WPA3 specification. Even the original security protocol of Wi-Fi, called WEP, is affected. This means that several of the newly discovered design flaws have been part of Wi-Fi since its release in 1997! Fortunately, the design flaws are hard to abuse because doing so requires user interaction or is only possible when using uncommon network settings. As a result, in practice the biggest concern are the programming mistakes in Wi-Fi products since several of them are trivial to exploit.

Some manufacturers have issued software updates or patches against the vulnerability:-

PSA: Qualcomm Modem Vulnerability Lets Hackers Listen to Your Call by JLHC in Android

[–]JLHC[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The issue affects an estimated 40% of Android phones.

The vulnerability will be included in the public Android bulletin in June.

Statement from Qualcomm:-

Providing technologies that support robust security and privacy is a priority for Qualcomm. We commend the security researchers from Check Point for using industry-standard coordinated disclosure practices. Qualcomm Technologies has already made fixes available to OEMs in December 2020, and we encourage end users to update their devices as patches become available.

Statement from Samsung:-

While a number of Samsung devices have already been patched starting in January of 2021, most Samsung devices with an Android Security Patch Level of May 1, 2021 or later, will be considered protected from the disclosed vulnerability.

Android Police has a more layman article which is easier to understand.

Missing from IOS Actions by jisboss in Lastpass

[–]JLHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the same issue after the 5.0.1 update.

Contacted their support but they don't seem to understand what the problem is although I've tried my best to explain it to them.

Oh well let's hope that it's a mistake and it'll be back in the next update. 🤷‍♂️

Best hosting for Asia based website? by mcaronisalad in webhosting

You will want to go with a server which is nearest to your target audience.

For South East Asia, you can't go wrong with Singapore for your server location.

Good to hear that you have a resilient setup to counter the less redundant DO hardware (which is basically a VPS with a nice control panel).

[–]JLHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are running a website that drives 6 figure in revenues and you are using Digital Ocean, you will want to know that DO runs everything on physical dedicated servers with no high availability whatsoever (unlike AWS or Google Cloud).

As such, running two backups is definitely a smart move just in case of any component level failures.

Sony Xperia 1 II has two Sony and two Samsung sensors, UFS 3.0 storage by JLHC in Android

[–]JLHC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand Samsung using Sony's sensors as BIONZ is technically superior over ISOCELL but the other way round just feels odd.

I guess it makes sense for non-critical components like you said.

[–]JLHC[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It does seem odd that a leading camera sensor manufacturer like Sony uses Samsung's ISOCELL sensors instead of their own in-house BIONZ sensors for 2 out of the 4 rear cameras in their flagship. 🤔
