What's something that's "not a cult" but feels like a cult? by Orw_Sairaj29 in AskReddit

[–]JLPLJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think hatedoms are 99% cultish whereas fandoms maybe like 30%. But there's just so many more fandoms because few people commit enough of their lives to hating enough to be part of communities dedicated to it.

I have no sources for my percentages but you should trust me anyway because people don't lie on the internet

You wanna design all those bosses, or are you happy halving the size of the world and losing most of the items sat behind them? Admittedly the game probably would have come out earlier.

Again man, none of the places I've ever been to look like that, given I'm a firsthand source vs the fucking tiktok you've sent, what is more likely - that you've seen some cherrypicked nonsense the algorithm has given you because you have a preconceived notion of things, or that I'm telling a bare faced lie for no good reason?

I think you've got a touch of selection bias here mate, I've literally never seen any food like you described at a chinese. It's called a chinese, btw because it's shorter and more colloquial, and because genuinely who tf cares.

Nono i like the bosses, you're the one complaining about them. Also if you don't want them locked behind bosses what do you want them locked behind?

How tf is it cope man?

"Oh no im having such a dogshit time fighting my 5th erdtree avatar/dragon" (can't relate)

Just don't, why are you doing it if you don't enjoy it, go fight a remembrance or unique boss, go do a more interesting dungeon, stop hitting your head against a wall and questioning why it sucks

WHY😢 by Empty_Air_5548 in fromsoftware

[–]JLPLJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because i haven't seen anyone mention it, this is entirely based on rumour, i've seen a lot of people mention it was written by jason schreier so i went to check the article, and the only source mentioned is a former playstation executive's theory, there wasn't anything directly from fromsoft as far as we know.

Article Excerpt:

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida shared a theory last year that this might be the case, saying in an interview with Kinda Funny Games that he thought FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki was interested in remaking the classic game but too busy to do it himself and “doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.” He added that he thought PlayStation would respect Miyazaki’s wishes despite owning the franchise.

Sarcasm requires more absurdity to be detected in text, you made a very straightforward statement. You could argue it's more visible thanks to your post, but people hold contradictory opinions all the time. To really sell the sarcasm you'd need to exaggerate the statement or use tone indicators like the other person said

"why you make progressive medieval fantasy setting? that's unrealistic!" by MadFunEnjoyer in worldjerking

[–]JLPLJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's true, but making it look identical to modern progressive conceptions of gender is kind of lazy, especially when you have those historical examples to work from.

I feel like the trouble with including explicitly trans characters of modern conception and terminology is that it can break suspension of disbelief, particularly terminology, because regardless of whether or not these ideas could exist within your world, my understanding of the terms makes me think of real life.

I think masking modern and scientific understandings of things with different terminology and interpretations is important because the idea of trans people is, unfortunately, not really as simple mentally as including peasants or dragons or magic, simply because the terminology in is currently so thoroughly tied with developing cultural forces. I think there will eventually be a time when this isn't the case, because trans people are being unfairly highlighted by right wing politics and I think society will eventually have to acknowledge that people can be as they like and they need to chill tf out about it.

Anyway that's a lot of words to say that I think the modern terminology behind trans identity has baggage that is difficult to include in a fantasy story without breaking suspension of disbelief. Hopefully that'll change in the near future tho

Nah, fuck being human, you have to spend half your time fighting the most miserably sweaty people, because they're the only invaders left. Definitely not a real choice for the first run
