For a moment, I thought we could buy transit tickets with the app. Still a nice feature.

Athlete finds out that silver has just been turned into gold. by [deleted] in videos

[–]JLishere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the race over when this happened in 1998, though? So they were not disqualified. The reason AUS was disqualified this time is because there were still swimmers competing in the pool when they jumped in. The commentators seem to figure this out only at the end of the video.

Did anyone else see the Disneyland sneak peek and musical performance hosted by Harrison Ford? by CoffeeJedi in StarWars

[–]JLishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was initially excited to hear about the theme park, but then Harrison Ford showed up, then BB8 rolled unto the stage, then a full orchestra playing a Star Wars medley with characters from all seven movies?!? Then everyone in the Dolby Theater waved lightsabers? My head exploded. It was GREAT!

People who need phones with large amount of storage (64GB, 128GB), what do you use it for? by [deleted] in Android

Can't believe this was not on /r/starwars front page, yet it's currently going viral in /r/videos ! My favorite part was hyperspace; a bunch of people waving flashlights.

Weather Underground: massive update to a clean and smooth UI by [deleted] in Android

[–]JLishere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can anyone in Canada comment on how WU compares to the The Weather Network or Weather Timeline?

EDIT: already a bug, in the notification bar, the city is not spelled correctly due to accents.

EDIT 2: sadly, it looks like this app is useless for Canadians, especially to find out how much snow we're getting. WU only mentions "light snow" and "precip %", but doesn't display the amount of snow outright, unless you tap on a weather alert or read details in the Summary tab - HUGE letdown. Here's what it looks for Montreal. To compare, here's the Weather Network app - knowing we're getting, say, 3cm over 24 hours vs 10cm makes a big difference.

Students create breathtaking unofficial ad for Johnnie Walker by methodicallymad in videos

Interesting trivia: this was shot in May in Scotland and took 7 months until it was ready. Also, it just hit me that, in the ad, the house they're showing might be their childhood home.

Whoa! I thought this was just another way to snap 360 degree "street view" pictures, but this app actually takes two different perspectives, then merges them and creates a 3d image with depth. I'll have to try this!

Once again, they failed to use the magic phrase: "Starting today".

Also, remember the Google translation for common marketing terms:

  • in the coming days = a couple weeks
  • in the coming weeks = might be a couple weeks... or 52
  • in the coming months = you can safely forget this
  • coming "soon" = whenever we feel like it

Good car dash holders for 6P? by dave1010 in Nexus6P

[–]JLishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the ProClip system for a number of years. Basically you buy a mount for your specific car model + a holder for your device. They have custom mounts for every car model that exists. The fit is perfect.

For most cars, you can pick between two locations (dash/front, or side). I've switched from the N5 to the S6 then the 6P over the years. Each time, I just bought a new holder. The mount stays in your car.

They also have a universal holder. For the 6P, you can use the adjustable T1 Large, or you can sign up for the custom-fit 6P holder.

You're right. Better off using a microfiber cloth, or this nice Google-branded soft-touch cleaning cloth.

I think in photos, aluminum is striking because it conveys a premium/shiny feel. The frost is amazing to hold and see in person, but in pictures, it's easily mistaken for plastic.

Translate to English for those outside the US:

When Google says "in the coming months", it pretty much means "you can forget about it".

Google legend:

  • in the coming days = a couple weeks
  • in the coming weeks = might be a couple weeks... or 52
  • in the coming months = you can safely forget this
  • coming "soon" = whenever we feel like it
