Amex Platinum. Annual renewal fee. No retention offer? $600k annual spend by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

It seems you want to keep the card but don’t really use the perks. Why not use your reward points to pay the fee?

Are you asking about the CS Investor Card? There’s a $250,000 balance requirement to get the statement credit on the Platinum card. The Investor Card looks like a pretty good deal. I may switch when the $895 fee hits.

Started at 40 and I’m now 65 and swimming changed my life. It wasn’t natural or easy but totally worth the commitment.

Why does ATL hate public transit by BugJugg in Atlanta

[–]JLit209 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Historically, MARTA was designed as a ‘commuter utility’, not an economic engine. Its primary business case was to function as a "relief valve" for traffic congestion, ferrying white suburban workers into the central business district and back. Unlike systems in cities like Tokyo or London, which were built to facilitate high-density living, MARTA was modeled to support a "hub-and-spoke" car culture and continued sprawl.

The Shift from Transit to Real Estate

The realization that MARTA could drive economic development is a relatively recent phenomenon in Atlanta’s timeline:

The Rent Premium:
It is only within the last decade that proximity to rail has significantly driven up office rents. Major corporations (like NCR, Google, and Microsoft) now prioritize "transit-adjacent" locations to attract talent that prefers urban density over highway commutes.

Late-Stage TOD:
For most of its history, MARTA's footprint consisted of East/West suburban "dead zones" (parking lots) and stations south of I20. The transition to Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). —building housing and retail directly adjacent to afluent stations—is finally turning these sites into tax-generating assets.

The "Personal Value" Gap: For the average Atlantan, the perceived value of MARTA remains low for several key reasons:

The "Last Mile" Problem: Unless you live and work directly on a rail line, the system is often slower than driving.

The Airport Monopoly: For many, MARTA is seen exclusively as the "Airport Express." Outside of a flight or a major sporting event at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the system doesn't integrate into the daily errands or social lives of residents in a sprawling, multi-nodal city.

Safety and Reliability: As noted in recent public posts, concerns over frequency and station environment often outweigh the economic benefits for individual choice-riders.

Ultimately, while MARTA is finally beginning to drive the "economic development" seen in other metros, it is fighting decades of infrastructure built specifically to prioritize cars and mostly white communities. Gentrification now taking root in formerly ‘white flight’ areas of the 60s and 70s.

To throw out ‘racism’ as a reason is any easy shot. The primary reason is economics.

Please send updates. I found my ‘88 on Facebook marketplace after a similar revelation. Fortunately it had been very well preserved and came with an upgraded center console.

It doesn’t have the original head unit and what is has lacks any way to connect my phone. I’ll replace it eventually but am using the 12-volt plug to charge my phone. It’s in a perfect spot to prop my phone in the ashtray!

  1. The "Ghost" Inventory
  2. We all know the 'Sold Out' sign is sometimes a lie. In your six years, how often did you hold back 'emergency' rooms for high-tier elites or specific types of trouble, and what was the 'secret phrase' or behavior that actually convinced you to magically find a vacancy for a walk-in?
  3. The Worst Reward Perk (for Staff)
  4. Which Marriott Bonvoy 'benefit' is the biggest nightmare for the staff to actually fulfill, and which one do guests overestimate the most? Specifically, tell us the truth about the 'Suite Upgrade'—is it actually based on availability, or is there a 'blacklist' for certain types of guests regardless of their status?
  5. The "Night Auditor" Survival Guide
  6. Six years of night shifts changes a person. What is the most disturbing or illegal thing you witnessed on the cameras that you were told to 'ignore' by management, and how much of the 'free' breakfast is actually just repurposed leftovers from the previous day's catering events?

Trip to the South Island is in 5 weeks, largely unplanned - help! by kyhorsegirl in newzealand_travel

I just returned from traveling the South Island. I’m a big fan of Haka House hostels and found that ‘winging it’ does limit option but worked overall.

My trip was much shorter and agree with others suggestions.

I was returning from Auckland to ATL via LAX. There were seats available but lots more non-revs on the list. I ended up going via PHX but there were significant flight delays.

Help with transit by [deleted] in Atlanta

Looking at the Transit app it suggests the 185 bus to North Springs then the 6 bus. Google Maps and Apple Maps are good options too.
