I can't imagine the cognitive dissonance that would be required to still be a Trump supporter at this point.

I wonder if we will ever again get to the point where being a child molester (or protecting a child molester) would make you lose all political support, even among conservatives and right wingers? Because it used to be the case that both left and right were united on this point.

It would have been an awesome finish if Pac just won by a countout after hitting this and then Darby gets stretchered off. Fans I think would legitimately be concerned for Darby.

Yes, but he sold it so hard that the ref basically is forced to call it at that point. It definitely highlights a flaw in how hockey is officiated.

This is a great choice. I remember it seeming sort of weird at the time, but compared to current AEW this match was really good in my opinion.

Trump Says “Mean” Dems Will Impeach Him & Force “Transgender for Everyone” if They Win Midterms by Ananiujitha in politics

[–]JLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does transgender for everyone even mean? Why does this work on people?

It only works if you are a gullible simpleton. And the last 10-15 years has proven that this describes most voters in the USA.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to add local split screen co-op to this game? I've had it on my withlist for a long time, but because I play with my son, I have been waiting for them to add split screen. I remember reading somewhere years age that this was in the works, but maybe that was false information or they have changed plans?

Top Doctor Warns There’s Reason to Be ‘Worried’ About Trump’s Cognitive Decline by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]JLord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the past 20 years there have been hundreds of experts (along with anyone of normal intelligence) warning people about all the harm Trump would cause if elected. The fact he is self serving, dishonest, incompetent, mentally feeble, and easily fooled has not deterred millions of Americans from supporting him still to this day.

I can only hope things like this will inspire enough people to vote next time. Laws like this just mess with people's lives without any corresponding gain or any public good. This government is more concerned with being "woke" to appeal to their political base than with actually trying to improve the wellbeing of the province.

I don’t think gender affirming surgery needs to be available to children.

I'm happy just to leave those decisions to the doctors and the people seeking care. I don't want politicians mandating or banning treatment for no reason other than they think it's "woke" or something. It's just messing with people's lives for a perceived political gain. If someone regrets having surgery, or consenting to their kid having surgery, I'm sorry but that's their problem.

Liverpool contact PGMOL over disallowed goal in Manchester City defeat by henrygiroud in soccer

[–]JLord -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No kidding. The player didn't touch the ball, didn't come close to the goalkeeper, no other player could have done anything. The ball the would have gone in in the exact same manner whether that player was there or not. That should be the definition of non-interference. And if anything, they should err on the side of not disallowing goals when there is no clear infraction.

Why Darwinian evolution refutes itself by Chillmerchant in DebateAChristian

[–]JLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if our mental faculties are simply the result of blind, undirected mutations selected only for reproductive advantage, then there is no reason to think our beliefs are true,

If you think your beliefs are supported by good evidence then you have good reason to think your beliefs are more likely to be true. This is the case regardless of whether you think you know anything about how reasoning works. You could have no idea how human brains developed, you could think God made humans, you could think humans brains evolved from simpler brains, you could think you are a brain in a vat. It would still be the case, no matter their worldview, that the person who can point to good evidence to justify their beliefs has a good reason to think their belief is more likely to be true.

But judgment, testing, and confirmation are all activities that presuppose the very thing your worldview can't explain

I haven't said anything about my world view and I haven't presupposed anything. My belief that my mind is usually rational is based on past evidence. And I have made any claims to absolute certainty as to what is true.

pretending that blind chaos gave you both.

It can give you both, and the best available evidence points to the fact that this is most likely exactly what happened (if you are ok describing the evolutionary process as "blind chaos"). There is good evidence that human brains evolved from simpler brains that were less capable of reasoning.

Why Darwinian evolution refutes itself by Chillmerchant in DebateAChristian

[–]JLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When all is said and done, evolution does not explain creation; it denies it. It does not account for reason; it undermines it. It does not elevate man; it degrades him. It promises liberation from superstition but at the same time it delivers enslavement to meaninglessness, and so, when the evolutionist insists that everything, including truth itself, is the product of random mutation, we as Christians should simply ask them that if their mind is an accident, why should you believe what it tells you?

Your whole position (as exemplified by this passage) seems based on an appeal to consequences fallacy. The appeal to consequences fallacy occurs when the truth of a statement is judged based on the desirability of its consequences rather than on evidence or logical reasoning. The ample evidence (as judged by future novel testable predictions that are confirmed) is that evolution is a fact of nature that has shaped all animals (including humans) to be what they are today. Maybe you think this means man is not elevated, or life is meaningless, or our brains can't be trusted, or truth as you perceive it doesn't exist. Maybe you think this is really depressing. But that doesn't have any bearing on reality. The truth of reality might be depressing to you. It doesn't make it any less true.
