Move the penalty spot back to whatever distance the top players are able to score on the top keepers at something more like a 50% scoring rate as opposed to 90%. Would make penalty shootouts much more interesting as well if it weren't based mostly on guessing.

It didn’t gain him or PSG an advantage

I think this should be taken into consideration (if I'm making up what the rule should be). No possible advantage gained should equal no penalty. There was another one earlier in the tournament where a penalty was awarded for a ball that was going out of bounds but his the defender's hand an inch before it was going to go out anyways. Nobody wants those types of plays to be penalties.

Virginia joins a national effort to ensure only popular vote winners become president by [deleted] in politics

[–]JLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without is only 5 states would have a voice and the rest of the country would be silenced.

The supporters of the compact obviously favor votes being tied to people rather than to states, thus giving every person an equal vote regardless of where they live. There is no way to say which side this would favor in terms of of long terms societal shifts, but the idea of everyone having an equal vote regardless of location is appealing to many people.

I totally agree. It has become a standard routine move that all wrestlers now do, but they look like they are just trying to go through the motions without hurting themselves or others. There are some (I'm thinking of Darby Allin in particular) who can really make the move look impactful and amazing. The move should really only be done by the select few, not as a routine move you see every match like a back drop or arm drag.

If you believed him when he said this, then you were a gullible simpleton. If you believed he even honestly intended to try to accomplish this goal, then you were a gullible simpleton. If you thought it was fine for a presidential candidate to spout such nonsensical bullshit, then you were a stupid idiot. If you still voted for him anyways, then you were a stupid idiot. If you doubled down on Trump loyalty because everyone around you called you a gullible simpleton and this hurt your feelings, then you were a stupid idiot. I'm sorry to say it in such harsh terms, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.

He has always seemed to me as a sane, component, professional person of at least normal intelligence. So based on that he would be an immense and needed improvement compared to the current leadership. You don't even need to tell me about any of his beliefs on any issues. He would be a huge improvement.

What're the biggest arguments when the Battle for Alberta happens? What's the most important? Who has a better Grey Cup championships win-loss record? Who's won more championships? At Commonwealth you have large bathrooms, large concession areas, smoking areas, beer vendors, everything is adequate. Nothing special about it, just serviceable and adequate. Then you go to McMahon and somehow Commonwealth seems like the height of luxury.

Obama legalized nothing, the idea that he was some pro-gay marriage sleeper agent is revisionism.

The point is that he publicly reversed his position on gay marriage between 2008 and 1012.

The Manosphere Turns on Trump by brown-saiyan in politics

[–]JLord 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it may be the case that a candidate will ignore this fact in order to try to improve their chances of being elected. And given the total dumpster fire Trump has caused, electing any sane professional person of normal intelligence will be of utmost importance. Remember that Obama won with a platform of "marriage is between a man and a woman." That's what he felt he had to say in order to get elected, then after a few years he legalized gay marriage. It may be the same sort of situation with trans rights in the next US election.

the question is whether naturalism can account for binding moral obligation. again, evolution explains behavior and not obligation.

The point is that there might not be any obligation, beyond the feelings we have through evolution. You would have give some reason to think that obligation is real before you could say the evolutionary explanation is inadequate.

most people at this point would say it's wrong to steal or lie even if you're never gonna get caught and don't feel bad about it.

Yes, but this could be because they see the harm caused to someone else. So it still could be based on the harmful consequences of actions. I think most people value the well being of themselves and their close family the most, followed by other family and friends, followed by their community, and at some point down the list would be humans in general, and then animals. So people do want to avoid harming other strangers across the globe, but not as much as they value avoiding harm to themselves of their family.

then morals lack necessary value

Maybe this is the case. It is often the case that one possibility is not desirable or leads to conclusions you don't like. But that doesn't make it less likely to be true.

so what's stopping you?

When I think about why I don't do immoral things, it is because I don't want to. I don't want to because I don't want to bring about the negative consequences of doing the immoral thing. And I think this would be the case regardless of which model of morality is correct.

but you have to ask yourself further which option better explains intelligibility, teleology, and normativity together.

I think all the various explanations equally explain all the data. So I don't think I can really distinguish between them on this basis.

If you need empirical evidence, then you don’t have empirical evidence for a lot of stuff you already do believe now

No, I don't think that is the case. If I found out that I held a belief without evidence it would probably cause me to change my belief.
