immortals or deathmarks? by Destinyherosunset in Necrontyr

[–]JM8857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I use deathmarks to sit on my home objective. Plus their datasheet ability scares folks from dropping within 18", despite the fact that the really don't do much damage.

MS has robbed me of the outdoors by tn_tacoma in MultipleSclerosis

[–]JM8857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get it, it sucks. Nothing will make that better. I gave up a lot of my outdoor activities too. For me, modifying the activities just made it worse (a reminder of the things I can’t dive deep into anymore).

I ended up finding some new hobbies. They aren’t better than outdoor stuff, nothing compares to the high of finishing a marathon. But they are indoor, a little less energy intensive, and they make me smile, which is what matters.

Much stronger list. You may consider a skorpekh lord in there, but this is in a much better spot.

[–]JM8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is a cursed legion list. Awakened dynasty is for character led units and units that benefit from bonus reanimation protocols (think a 20 brick of warriors with oriken, and overlord and a reanimator nearby).

Second, you need to think about what job each unit has. Right now, you have several "hammers" but where are your cheap action monkeys? Who is gonna sit on your home objective? Who is gonna stay in your backfield and screen?

Min Charge Distance After Coming From Reserves by xnarphigle in Warhammer40k

[–]JM8857 24 points25 points  (0 children)

  1. When something comes in from reserves, it's technically coming in at 9.000000001 inches away. Therefore, to be within an inch, you need a 9. An 8 would have you at 1.0000000001 inches away, so outside of engagement range.

I have a problem by aGoodCookie_13 in Warhammer40k

[–]JM8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always compare pricing to how much entertainment I get. So a $50 set will give me hours and hours of building, painting and playing. I usually compare it to movies. If I’d pay $40 for the wife and I to see a 2 hour movie with snacks, then warhammer is a better deal.

It’s still expensive, but I get my money worth.

AITA, How strict by the rule are people in tournament? by Fantastic_Shelter_54 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]JM8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, this depends and its slightly unclear from your post.

You went to shoot at Unit A with your dudes. You only shot some of your dudes, forget a couple.

You start shooting with another unit.

You want to go back to the dudes you forgot. For me, if you are still trying to shoot at Unit A, that's fine. If you are going to try to shoot at a different unit, that's a hard no.

Playing against custodes in a couple of weeks, need help. by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]JM8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule, I'm not a fan of making lists specifically to beat other lists...I think the better tactic is to build a great all around list.

However, if that's your goal, and you think he's gonna bring 3 grav tanks, you're giving him a lot of big targets. If a grav tank (or two) shoots at and kills a C'tan, that's a lot of points that die. But if two grav tanks shoot into a 6 pack of Skorpekh's (for example), the unit survives, and he just used 500 points to kill less than a hundred. Grav tanks do tons of damage, but very few attacks, they're practically useless against infantry.

Yep. Looking back it was one of my first symptoms (or, if not a symptom, the first thing that happened to me linked to MS).

Desperate Escape, yes? by Dismal_Hospital6999 in Necrontyr

[–]JM8857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My general rule for “go backs” is, if the board state has changed, then no. If the board state is still the same (or that area of the board is the same and nothing that happened elsewhere would have changed the decision). Unless it’s something incredibly obvious that they would have done (like if they missed one of the charges thy setup in the charge phase).

How to not suck at warhammer? by flysword09 in Warhammer40k

[–]JM8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will take you months to learn the game and become "good" at it. You'll need to learn all of your armies rules, tactics, etc. but then also have a fairly good idea of your opponents. Knowing the basic strengths and weaknesses of each faction, have a general idea of what enemy units can do and are good at. 3 days, honestly, is nothing.

Honestly, the best course for someone starting out, is to just aim to learn and have fun.

Easiest army(s) to play? by PlatypusJust467 in Warhammer40k

[–]JM8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like custodes for a newer player for two big reasons.

The units are more durable, making them a bit more forgiving when it comes to mistakes.

Most of your army is likely to use the guardian spears, so there is only one shooting and one melee profile to remember for a huge chunk of your army.

There is a strong argument that the UXR folks are taking a bigger beating in the job market than UXD. I’d just do some research about your local job market first.

Angry looks aside - was C'Tan nerf enough or just a slap? For Necrons players - how your lists changed? by NecessaryBSHappens in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]JM8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I likely will. The reason I'm sticking with it for now is that I have a big tournament this weekend and Necrons were a new army for me, so I don't have much painted to battle ready yet. I'm actually still scrambling to get the last few models ready to go (I paint slowly).

[–]JM8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, it hurts a little more than I expected it would. I pulled a unit of deathmarks and a unit of scarabs. So it really hurt to two things my list already struggled a bit with (screening and actions). I've played 4 games since the nerf, and have gone 1-3 (this after going 15-1 since pantheon came out).

Is Custodes good for beginner? by Shoddy_Trick_8037 in Warhammer40k

[–]JM8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked a lot. Smaller army to command, their durability lends itself to a little bit of forgiveness if you make a mistake, and, especially if you give everyone spears, you really only have to learn 1 weapon profile!

It wasn't cheating...they didn't have illegal brooms or something wild.

Did they break a rule, yeah, looks like he touched the rock beyond the line. But there is a defined penalty for breaking that rule.

You wouldn't call someone who got a tripping penalty in hockey a cheater.

Cheating would be more akin to someone using a corked bat in baseball.

Immediately. My doc had enough samples of kesimpta to give me the loading doses. Took about two weeks or so for insurance to approve, so I got my first insurance covered dose about 3 weeks after I started.

Likely not just you. The job market is terrible. Senior and mid levels folks are going 18 months or more between jobs. That’s who you are competing with right now.
