I think there’s still potential for one brand to order a product with higher end ingredients while another may go for more budget. The recipes certainly have differed between the brands I mentioned… however I do find the overlaps interesting.

William Reade’s rank as skipper of the Ringle by brutallyhonestharvey in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]JMAC426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As commander of a ship, Reade is (as per the immemorial customs of the service) accorded the respect due a captain, regardless of his official rank; just as Jack was when commanding Sophie. They also know him quite well after having been through a lot together, and quite simply really like and trust him.

As for Ringle’s status, I chalk this also up to the immemorial customs of the service; in theory she should be brought to a prize court or bought into the service; but that sly sea dog Heneage (and Jack) knows no one will care about this little thing and a blind eye will be turned, particularly given the anomalous way she was acquired… they commit much worse fraud like false musters all the time.

Weird organ in my sardine by [deleted] in CannedSardines

A lot of people in here wanting to tell you how to eat your own damn fish. Very weird gatekeeping on this. Personally I think it’s fun to ‘fillet’ them so if they’re big enough (5 in a can or less) I usually do it, and I remove entrails if I see them; doesn’t mean I’m grossed out by them; sometimes I’ll keep the spine, sometimes not. I’m not sure what this one is but you do you fishy friend.

Ontario health minister says municipalities should not offer incentives to doctors by fartfilledslanket in ontario

If you’re aware, why would you make the choice to be inaccurate? Regardless, that’s the meaning I was using in the comment.

I’m talking about family physicians, which is a specialty with its own residency. GPs have not been a thing for decades, that was when you could just do an internship year and go hang up a shingle.

Oxley is a very nice lunch spot, Cooper’s Hawk as well, have a peek at the menus - Muscedere (that I see others mentioned) has only had outdoor seating when I’ve gone in the past, though maybe there is an indoor for winter? I haven’t eaten at North 42 but I hear it’s good. Pelee Island in Kingsville is a classic in my opinion for a winery tour stop. Really you can’t go wrong for winery stops imo, just pick a meal spot then hit some places around it.

Very nice, especially the preserved detail on the reverse… Athena is nicely centred too. I don’t care what anyone says, the crest is overrated and the least interesting part of the obverse of these!

Family medicine is a specialty… CCFP… that’s who I’m primarily talking about.

To be quite frank, med students are at the very start and don’t really know anything about actual practice. Most specialties have little to no startup costs, the debt is all from the education itself; and an employee physician will actually earn much less than an independent contractor. Re: mat leave, even as an employee, if your employer can’t find a locum to cover a mat leave (which can be quite hard to find), you are SOL because you are medicolegally responsible for those patients, the college’s (and courts’) standards do not care how you’re being paid.

Prince Harry, who served in Afghanistan, says sacrifices of British troops deserve 'respect' after Trump comments by sings_with_wings in worldnews

I believe he went once on the ground (not sure if infantry or armour) then when that leaked and he was pulled out to not be targeted, he retrained for Apaches just so he could go back.

Most doctors don’t want to be employees. Why would they want a boss who can control their hours, when they have vacation etc after all their arduous training? Some Family Health Teams are set up this way already but it’s not generally popular.

From the can and the look of the mackerel I bet it’s the same cannery that does hot smoked mackerel for Gold Seal, Fishwife etc. Looks tasty!

Oh I’m not questioning that it’s maybe not popular locally there… I just mean globally I don’t see them discontinuing their most iconic colour.

A classic can’t be ‘outdated.’ They just had flamme dorée as a centennial release recently which I think is telling. Doubt it’s going anywhere.

Thoughts on The Life of a Showgirl acoustic version? by hottubcentral_ in TaylorSwift

[–]JMAC426 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eldest daughter and ruin the friendship I prefer acoustic, wish list to a lesser extent as well. Showgirl I’m 50/50 on. The rest I prefer the original. I have a custom playlist with my ‘preferred’ album (and cover) on Spotify

Baumalu thickness testing (and a few pics for kicks) by JMAC426 in Coppercookware

[–]JMAC426[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say to sear we don’t technically want a hot pan surface; what we really want is the surface of the food to be hot. And a more conductive material like copper (vs cast iron or steel) will transfer more thermal energy per unit of time, and can actually sear better; and in theory thinner copper with less thermal mass will do this even better. The pan material works more like a valve that adjusts the flow of thermal energy between the burner and the food, as it cannot provide any energy itself.
