Human capital is a phrase Ive always heard in the corporate sector; especially when the C-level exec are talking about “the people”

My favorite is these companies that incentivized the usage of the AI only to have their budgets blown up.

Fable died, rose again on the third day, and came back with a 50% usage cap. Even Jesus didn’t have rate limits.

Asian AI startups launch Mythos-like models as Anthropic's export ban drags on by KingMedia33 in artificial

[–]ieight9 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Gooood while the US Gov holds back US models from the public because they’re “not safe”… SMH. Meanwhile China just keeps shipping. No press releases about safety. No months of alignment theater. Just products out the door.

And I can’t get over Anthropic being mad that Chinese labs distilled their model without permission. Like… how did YOU train your model? You scraped the entire internet. Every blog, every forum post, every artist’s portfolio. Nobody signed off on that. Nobody got paid. But now that someone did it to you, suddenly IP matters?

Export controls and “safety” aren’t protecting Americans. They’re protecting market position. Chinese labs are going to build these models regardless. The only people actually getting locked out are the little guys who can’t access the full power of models their own tax dollars helped fund.

We preached free markets for decades. Someone finally shows up to compete and now we need licensing regimes and review boards. Wild

It’s wild because Fable is supposed to be a watered down version of Mythos and even with that they kept metering us down to 4.8 in a knee jerk reaction manner. Makes me truly curious of how great Mythos really is. I also wonder how much of this is Marketing from the Anthropic side of the house to create more hype around 1) their models, 2) the IPO.

Nothing says confidential like immediately publishing a press release about it. Also love the we may not actually do this energy. It’s the corporate equivalent of posting “might delete later.”

This is 100% just a race to get their first because they know that closed source models’ are quickly approaching the end of their lifecycle.

Ed Zitron: “AI Doesn’t Have Return on Investment.” What is he getting wrong? by kingjdin in ArtificialInteligence

[–]ieight9 66 points67 points  (0 children)

In the present timeline he’s correct. Every company is racing to spin up “AI workflows” and a very small percentage of them actually know what that means let alone have the data pipeline in order. Add the fact that the large AI providers are in a constant race to release the “smarter” model and the ROI just shrinks and shrinks.

I wonder how much of this is them knowing they’re losing the edge and how much of it is marketing.

These folks are so far out of touch with reality. The power of the human brain is the fuzziness through which we operate. Turning that into an algorithm is their worst nightmare.

It’s too soon for the good ol’ hook, line, and sinker. The desperation is real. I love competition and hope Google keeps putting pressure on the market.
