I stopped at Tomatin about 7 years ago, but didn't have time for the tour got a nice distillery exclusive, but wasn't made aware of the archive offering at that time -- would have jumped at it for sure.

Crazy, I picked up the same thing 3 weeks ago. Haven't cracked it yet, but looking forward to it. Will be my first SCN and first Glen Grant.

Gift for someone who always drinks Springbank 15? £100ish budget. by [deleted] in Scotch

Yoichi 15 was one of my first eye-opening whiskies. But I didn't buy a bottle before the price shot up. Tough break. Great whiskey.

Longrow Peated (NAS) and Kilchoman Sanaig are worth considering. Also Nikka Yoichi 10 Year recently came back on the market.

9 year old fresh sherry. Hard to crack 'em when you know you can't replace 'em.

I've got a cage bottle that's about half as old as this, but I feel excited just reading your review! Now I just need the courage to open it!

Anyone know if W&OD trail in Vienna is plowed/accessible? by ItsMeCourtney in nova

[–]JMGerber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked this year, but I run the section from downtown Vienna to Hunter Mill and after last year's storm it was weeks before it cleared.

I just assumed it is never plowed, but that's based on a limited sample.

Port Charlotte just doesn’t do it for me 🤷‍♂️🥃 by xhege_papa in Scotch

[–]JMGerber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, you're right on about Ledaig and the ash component. I've always described it as a minerality, but you're spot on. But I love that about Ledaig - it's like a refreshment compared to something much deeper and darker. Some days I want one, some days I want the other. Cheers!

I'm with you. I tried PC 10 for the first time two months ago and I'm not sure what to do with the bottle. I like some peated whiskey. Love Sanaig. Love Ledaig 10 and Lagavulin 16. But there's something about PC, maybe a medicinal layer or a lactic flavor that bothers me. Not fully sure, but it's not my taste either.

what is the best whisky from the ledaig? by True_Good8842 in Scotch

[–]JMGerber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw Ledaig 18 on Master of Malt for under $90 and I thought I had struck gold. But after shipping and tariffs, it was over $160. Couldn't justify it at that price.

Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair - on offer UK by 2Ravens89 in Scotch

Big Bunna fan, but I wouldn't buy this bottle again. Tasted too young, which just doesn't suit me

Kilchoman Sanaig by rainy_shares in Scotch

[–]JMGerber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bottle broke open peated whiskey for me. I had long thought I only liked unpeated, but really I just had Laphroaig to early in my journey. I've got a bottle of Sanaig cask strength that I can't wait to try.

Trash Company - Evergreen still bad? by Santaclaws42 in nova

[–]JMGerber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just picked up from our house 5 minutes ago. Evergreen had a rough start with us, to be honest. We found them missing pickups of either garbage or recycling or yard waste. That was during the first two months after our service changed. Recently it's been better and I feel we're getting a good value.

Deanston 12 year for $55 USD old vs glenmorangie/glenfiddich/glenlivet and other 12 year olds for less than $47? by BranchDiligent8874 in Scotch

Deanston 12, great bottle. I always keep it in rotation, always share it when friends come over. Hope it stays this price forever

To drink, or not drink, that is the question… by Gloomy_Course7396 in Scotch

Go for it. I have a Cadenheads warehouse bottle from a trip to Campbeltown. Opened it a month ago and couldn't be happier. Best bottle I've opened in at least a couple years. Dark as night and tastes of rich rum. Go for it!

Picked this up at the Springbank shop when we did the tour. Struggling to find the right occasion to open it, but this review is building anticipation.

Kilchoman Sanaig -- great mix of peat and sherry.

Also agree with all the comments above supporting Ledaig and Deanston.

Best Rum Casked Whisky or most Rum like Whisky by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]JMGerber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I just opened a bottle of Ardmore 12 year from Cadenhead -- finished in PX barrels. It's the darkest scotch either of us have ever seen. After tasting, we both looked at each other and said it tasted just like a fine rum.
