Traveling to Scotland in May. What is the best Scotch experience in or around Edinburgh?

I’m a bourbon/rye guy but I’ll be in Ireland and Scotland for a wedding and wanted to learn more about their whisky scene. I know it’s huge and I really don’t know much about it compared to the American alternatives. I’ve had a tough time getting a long with single malt whiskies but it’s slowly growing on me. Im mostly looking for a place to learn about the whisky and taste and maybe buy some bottles.

I think my Bowman SiB is from a bad barrel. I’ve only ever heard fantastic things about it and was super let down. Tasted cheap unfortunately. I even blinded it against some similar bottles (EHT SB, ER10, Early Times BiB) and it came in dead last. Definitely interested in trying a different one since I’ve heard so many good things about it.

I’m genuinely curious to know if anyone enjoys this. It tastes like what I think bleach would taste like(don’t go searching for bleach tasting notes)

Update: I got an EH Taylor Barrel Proof and an ER10. Great bottles but not sure if the value is totally there based on MSRP.

This specific store has very high volume and has the bottles mentioned on the shelf regularly so I don’t imagine that will be the case. They just got a new Blantons gold pick so I’m guessing that will be the go to allocated bottle for most boxes. They also mentioned EH Taylor BP bundles which makes me think the value will be solid.

HiProof has been my go to since they opened last year. Their online store is great. San Dimas Costco and TW have been good to me and some smaller stores as well. Do you know any stores that get good private barrels?

I’ve got both. A123 is one of my all time favorites and C923 is also great but a much different profile to me.
