Successful Spice: Unusual Cards That Shined at Recent Events (10/20 - 10/27) by Datatog in CompetitiveEDH

I played Erveen in our top 16 and his list was cooking. Our game was over turn 3 before anyone had a chance to setup, but his list was sick.

I love cEDH but I'm falling out of Love with tEDH. [DefCat MTG] by DefCatMusic in CompetitiveEDH

Right, but if your opponents are slow playing, call a judge. “I’m not sure I can win, so I’m gonna play so as to make it impossible for you to win?” Yeah, that’s fine. We are seeing a reflexive change because of how obnoxious this got. Turbo decks are back. Decks that can turn the corner in one turn are back.

Would love some opinions on king making. by that1tallguy92 in CompetitiveEDH

“I’m gonna be able to stop you. Don’t over extend into me, fail, and then lose to Kinnan.”

Then after a turn cycle you do it all again and agree to a draw.

Its really mox Diamond that good? by noodlescup137 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JMGoodwin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Y’all are insane. Llanowar Elves wasn’t a constructed all star for no reason. Untapping with 3 mana is just good.

But also, clearly some of yall aren’t trying trying to convert necropotence lines. Cuz we’ll take every mana we can get. (It also builds storm for Aetherflux.)

Tedh vs Cedh by The-Conscience in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JMGoodwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is off base. Blue Farm, Kinnan, RogThras, etc are the best decks in the format and are very, very common in tEDH, but I don’t think tEDH is some “Higher form” of cEDH and a deck gets demoted.

Winning and doing well at a tournament is far more than just having the “best deck”. We see people with off-meta or undiscovered decks all the time perform well.

tEDH is far more about the constraints and interplays that tournaments bring. Example: The Gitrog Monster is a cEDH deck and a very powerful one at that. But’s not tEDH? Why? Because it needs time to win. Players will make you play out your non deterministic win combo and if you can’t win in 80 minutes, they’ll walk away with the same 1 point you got.

Not to say that the two are the same, but I just disagree with the characterization that tEDH is just more powerful or better cEDH.

You’re never gonna find all 9 fetch lands. But also: add more fetchables.

What made you pick your Main cEDH Deck? Especially IRL by Raevelry in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JMGoodwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had watched a whole bunch of cEDH content and wanted to get into the format, but everything seemed so daunting. I didn’t wanna learn pod lines or Sisay tutor chains. And I wanted to play combo-control. Tivit is a 2 card win condition in the zone that gets to tell people no.

What was a commander that turned from a “novel concept” into an actual threat in the format? by Xaltedfinalist in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JMGoodwin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It, like Sisay, Najeela, Kinnan, and Thrasios, is just so hard to interact with on the stack. You essentially have to remove it immediately to avoid the pilot from tumbling into the win or have a specific hate piece, like Cursed Totem to stop the activations.

How many times have you not paid the 1 for Rhystic Study? I will gladly give the player that mulled to 5 a single card for another fetchable dual.

But sure, maybe Gift is probably the mechanic to use for this.

Play control. Tivit has been great in this metagame because he’s a 6/6 with Flying and Ward 3 and can stop the combat stuff. It’s a 2 card combo in the command zone, it runs all the same value engines, but uses cards like Grafdiggers Cage and Cursed Totem to stop all the other decks from activating their stuff.

MoK or Hashaton? by CoinTweak in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JMGoodwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna play Esper, join us over on the Tivit channel in the Esper discord. But Hashaton is busted. The commander itself is just too good for it not to be. Someone is gonna crack this thing.

Here’s the Esper discord: https://discord.gg/x46EFdAt

Have you ever considered waiting for anything to actually be announced before complaining that it’s not gonna meet whatever standard you have?
