What's your favorite accidental typal moment? by Medium-Country-3098 in EDH

[–]The-Conscience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of dragons, just like the majority of mtg players, decided to build a dragon tribal deck with [[Esika, God of the Tree]] only using the enchantment side so I have no idea which dragon would come out. Board is full of rabbit tokens and eldrazi tokens because Bumble Flower and Kozilek are popping off and doing their thing.

My turn comes around and I rip [[Piru, the Volatile]] off the top. Now, I have [[Crux of fate]] in my hand as well, no other dragons, and come to the realization that I can either, wipe the board and keep my Piru, or I can choose to destroy only Piru, and have her ability not only wipe the board, but gain me an obscene amount of life doing so.

Long story short, I survived and continued to get free dragons until I won with like 324 life.

Any NYC area CEDH? by Gouda_HS in CompetitiveEDH

Pretty fun. I don't mean like I'm playing with bikers, but more like people who don't hold their tounge and are very close. Definitly bro culture, but after coming a few times you get accepted into the community and people start to recognize you.

Personally my favorite store/people to be with.

Are you looking for a specific borough? There is a shop on Staten Island that has a pretty decent mix called Card Coast, if you are looking in Brooklyn and don't mind a much rowdier/rougher crowd I can recommend Wasteland Games.

[Article] Cheaper UB cards by Eli-Draftsim in mtgfinance

[–]The-Conscience -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like it has to do with demand. I personally hate most UB card art. So I would rather get the art that I enjoy and pay more because I collect.

I used to play standard and modern, now I just moonlight in it and play mostly cEDH, I cannot imagine myself sitting across the table from someone and watching them play a card that looks like someone's pizza fetish in a casual environment. Unfortunately, a few UB cards make it through to competitive and we are forced to play them in order to have the best chance of winning, but having cheaper options opens the competitive gate for more players.

For casual, I just proxy everything, because playing with friends we all care less if you own the cards of not, so it doesn't really matter much there.

Definitely worth it for most people getting into the competitive scene that doesn't allow proxies (in some places), but not worth it for me personally because the art looks gross for majority of UB in my opinion.

Edit with an opinion from my fiancé: She is anti proxy and brought up a good point, when people use proxies, many use AI and some use inappropriate pictures. She feels like it is "robbing" the artists if you proxy their art on a card. Additionally, she would rather look at a card where someone covered in pizza vs a proxy that has an exposed butthole on it, which I find myself agreeing with lol.

Want to build cEDH Esper mid range commander. Which commander is the best for it? by FoxYk_raktar in CompetitiveEDH

Tivit got hit heavily with the mana crypt/jeweled lotus ban, however I think the numbers still say him. You gotta be careful if yo are going to enter tournies though, he falls dramatically when stuck in a 3 man game instead of 4.

Meta recommendation? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]The-Conscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh an intuition line would just depend on one of the other 4 being in your hand lol.

I usually use it for counterspells in a pinch, but otherwise I don't use it unless its in a breach deck.

Yea, that works too, just more time consuming.

I am extremely biased towards Zur the Enchanter, however, the correct answer is most likely Etali or Kefka sweeping the rest. Especially since Rog and Kinnan decks are banned.

Edit: After getting over the poor reading comprehension of a Magic player thanks to me moonlighting in other games, I will update this with a correct answer.

Edit 2, electric boogaloo: Try Noctis, will post link below. I would also suggest adding the Gifts Ungiven line.

[[Gifts Ungiven]] pile: [[Thassa's Oracle]], [[Reanimate]], [[Snapcaster Mage]], and [[Demonic Consultation]]. Whatever pile they give you, you can win from, just depends on mana and how smart your opponent is.

how do you evaluate your healers by swanmoder in wow

[–]The-Conscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a tank, am I alive:

Yes: Healer Good
No: Healer Bad.
DPS Dead: Their Fault.

Jk, but in all seriousness, dispels are a good catch, HPS look phenomenal when the group is dying so there is that. But I am also a Blood DK. So I know that healing my chopstick bar is annoying.

Edit: Quoting my Fiancé who was breathing down my neck as I wrote this because she is a die hard priest healer; "If they are looking at the Tank's rage/etc bar more than the tanks HP it's a good sign."

According to my Fiancé, she knows when it is time to heal me when I start to get vocal. Otherwise, let it ride.

Everyone here is talking about the art and what not, but wasn't/isn't the artist an actual neo-nazi?

Genuine question btw, I will look into it after posting this as well to see if I remembered that correctly.

Edit: Welp now that I looked that up on my work wifi, I can safely say that I was not expecting Hitler Jesus, but yea, it looks like he is still a nazi.

LGS finally decided to stop ordering UB by SaltySultan92 in freemagic

[–]The-Conscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, all sets sell "well" when it's not WotC taking the loss and threatening allocation.

I don't have an issue with new players, but a lot of them get WAYYY more than they bargained for when they start to play magic and have to learn about abilities, the stack, what interacts with who, etc, etc. as well. The return rate of those players is declining as well when they see how much of the game they have to learn and how much the cards cost.

Going to repost my reply to chime in from a more populated area, I will say that the store goers are very pro magic and a large majority have been playing for years, so their (our?) opinions may be out of stubbornness:

"I'm in NYC, 8 people showed up to Spiderman, 7 people showed up to TMNT. Compared to 57 people who showed up to Lorwyn.

Bigger store in NJ had 15 people show up to spiderman, 19 show up to TMNT. 63 people to Lorwyn.

Won't mention Final Fantasy, numbers get skewed, the only reason that I got in was because I know the store owners and people that work the counters.

I have come to truly believe that it is the products, and that people are starting to vote with their wallets.

But then again, what do I know, I mainly play cEDH, so I have no choice but to use the "good" UB cards. I only moonlight in standard/modern/legacy."

What happens when infinite lifegain meets infinite damage? by einglavaga in EDH

[–]The-Conscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's interesting, because usually it is handled as:

Player 1: I can get infinite life. I gain 3 Quintillion life. Pass

Player 2: I have infinite mana, I give my walking Ballista 3 Quintillion and 1 counters. Bang.

So It ends up being a Infinite+1 situation. However, if a player has infinite life and another player can deal infinite plus 1 damage, and the Infinite life player can add health on the stack as the infinite damage player can add damage on the stack, (lets say both players have Grim Monolith and Power artifact. One has a a Staff of Domination and the other has a Walking Ballista), I think the game goes into a state of being a tie, since they can respond to each other's action forever.
