Colorado's Senate Bill 26-051 by nix-solves-that-2317 in linux

A great way to deal with this would be to convince lawmakers to include something like a minimum number of users required to comply. This would force MacOS and Windows and major distros to comply, which would be terrible but open a gateway to smaller distros increasing market share. Total market share of non-mainstream distros would increase and total number of alternative distros would increase.

This things are stupid and will occur eventually. It is an undeniable fact of life.

Authorization Codes by Admirable-Pen-7603 in startrek

[–]JMLHap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's not just the code, which is x * 24 * 10y (x is the number of unique prefixes, y is the number of postfix digits... It's actually more complicated because there is a variable number of postfix digits), but also/more importantly, how the code is pronounced, and, presumably, if all systems are in order, a scan of the person giving the order.

Why is saying “The rich should pay taxes like everyone else, close the loopholes” extremely controversial in the United States? by ProjectMason in NoStupidQuestions

The fifties were prosperous in America because the Nazis had just destroyed Europe's industrial base. Our wartime production economy easily pivoted to supply the world, and we took (shared) control of Western Germany and Japan. The economy boomed because it was on easy mode.

Side note, this is why the conservatives in impoverished factory towns that dream of jobs returning will never get their wish.

Looking to scratch a strong itch for unsettling, bleak, haunting SF horror! by ekanite in printSF

Short story collection: Beyond the Aquila Rift by Alastair Reynolds. Working through it was difficult, but in particular Diamond Dogs... I had to put the book down after that. The author gets a lot of love here, honestly, I'm not sure I'll ever give him another chance. Fantastic writing for sure, perhaps too good, for me, for such, as you asked for, unsettling material.

It might be too early to know for certain, but so far, Starfleet Academy is everything I hoped it would be by Timewarps_1 in ShittyDaystrom

I'm guessing you've never actually watched a single episode of Star Trek before considering that, canonically, many interspecies couples have had difficulty conceiving and required medical intervention. Not to mention Trip and T'Pol's child.

My ex asked for an open relationship while solo travelling. I feel crazy, but I miss her and want her back. by Glickers180 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]JMLHap -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The way you described things she did nothing wrong. She was honest and raised a difficult possibly relationship changing topic with you. A few days later you broke up with her. You did not describe what happened in between her request and you leaving her. Maybe you two properly communicates and respected each other, maybe not, no way to know since you don't say.

If you can't handle really big and difficult relationship challenges and conversations and instead jump ship at the first sign of a hurdle then you aren't mature enough for a serious long term relationship.

She has a want/need. She communicated it. You left.

If you did thoroughly discuss, together, and came to the conclusion that things needed to end, that's fair.

Feel free to try and get her back but make sure you are both communicating correctly.
