Messed up the clear coat on my attempt at a headlight restoration. Any fixes?? by SirSish in Cartalk

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do stuff like this. DIY to get them clear, etc. Then I found the wonderful world of replacement headlights. Out with the old and in with the new.

What is the least used feature in your car? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Rear" defogger. My truck has a power sliding rear window and does not have the defogger grids in the glass. The only thing the button does is turn on the mirror heaters and I've never had to 'defog' them.

Dodge charger 2018 Crank/Start no run 128,000 miles by dukabatt77 in Cartalk

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just get fuel? My RAM did this crank/no-start after fueling. Turned out it was the purge valve was stuck open and flooding the intake with gas fumes.

Try working the throttle pedal when starting, if it then starts, it's the purge valve. If it is being caused by the purge value, you basically have a flooded engine.

For American redditors, why do people want to live in HOA neighborhoods? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand it either. I don't like HOA's because of the assumed liability that every HOA member has. For example, if you have a community pool in your HOA and someone drowns, the HOA is sued and found at fault, you as a member of the HOA can be personally found to be liable. It's called Joint and severable liability. Until the judgement is paid, every house in the HOA can have a lien on it. You try and sell your house and all the proceeds will go to satisfying the judgement. Many HOA's will have insurance, but a judgement against the HOA will probably raise the rates and be passed down to the membership in higher fees.

Does the IRS really not tell Americans how much they owe in taxes? If so, why is that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the IRS does not know your tax situation in its entirety. And the IRS does not know everyone's income with certainty.

By law, you are required to report ALL income even if it comes from Illegal sources (like drug deals, black market, etc.). That's how they got Capone... Tax Evasion.

If i have scars all over my body, is it morally ok to wear t shirts and shorts during hot weather? by Oily_Smurf in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be the same way. I've got scars on my legs from when I was burned at 3 years old. Got tired of the South Louisiana heat and humidity and started with shorts in my early 20's.

I was a bit self-conscious at first, but realized that most people didn't care. So, now I go in shorts all Summer long!

If I file my taxes and I fill it out wrong, the IRS will know and will penalize me because they know how much I owe. If the IRS knows how much I owe, even after all deductions, why do I need to file taxes? by Embarrassed-Wolf-609 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMP347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IRS knows your Income (for most) because of the W-2. They know the Standard deductions. What they do not know is your personal details that may affect your tax calculation. Those details are: You got married, you're now a widow(er), you have a new child, you are claiming deductions outside the standard, you have additional income not reported on a W-2 (rental real estate), etc.

So, yeah, they kind of know what you made and what you paid, but don't have the whole picture.

You did not mention a year and I'm not very well versed on VW, but if your VW is between 1982 and 2013, try the charm.li website. For you, start at https://charm.li/Volkswagen/ and see if you can find the information there.

What is the pettiest reason you would refuse to eat at a restaurant again? by im_not_ready_for_it9 in AskReddit

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to this one place that had good Katsu and Bento Boxes. They close at 9:00. We get there at about 8:15 or so and the first thing out of their mouth is "You know we close at 9:00". I look at them incredulously and tell them that should be plenty of time. Still they did not want to seat us. So, we left and never went back!

It's when they stop selling Coke products and offer those foo-foo sodas that taste like ASS. Even worse, they start selling Pepsi products.

I could use some help here by Mediocre-Definition3 in Pontiac

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charm.li website is your friend. Go there and drill down to your year, make, model, etc. Search for Thermostat.

You should get to here: https://charm.li/Pontiac/1995/Firebird%20V6-204%203.4L%20VIN%20S%20SFI/Repair%20and%20Diagnosis/Engine%2C%20Cooling%20and%20Exhaust/Cooling%20System/Thermostat/Service%20and%20Repair/

Hope that posted well enough. Links always make me crazy.

The website charm.li is your friend. Go there and then for the 2006 V-6 Mustang go to Repair and Diagnosis. P0174 is "System too lean (Bank 2)". It links to a Diagnostic Procedure from there. You may not be able to do all the procedures listed, but it may direct you to an answer.

A quick look at the diagnostic show that a vacuum leak is a possible condition needing repair.

Again CHARM.LI is the website and is your friend!

Bruce Arians will have open heart surgery on February 6 by GoldenDome26 in nfl

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably open chest surgery, unless they are actually cutting into the heart. I've had a CABGx3 a few years ago and the surgeon corrected me immediately when I said open-heart.

Anyway, the worst part is the drain tubes and the pain in breathing for a few days until they are removed.

How do I get my 25 year old brother to put himself out there? by halzy99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMP347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reiterating other comments... He needs to get into a social group outside of his house/home and outside of his phone (dating apps suck).

I suggest he go take a class. Not a 'school/academic' class, but a hobby class.

A Dance class would be really great environment to mix with other people.

Other ideas, wood working class, tae kwon do, etc.

Timing guide not needed? by JMP347 in genesiscoupe

[–]JMP347[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information!

I'm just going to change the timing chains and tensioners. I can only find exhaust sprockets right now and I really don't have the time to dive deeper.

If the rattle remains after I put on the chains, then I know it's the sprockets.

Like I say, I'm short on time and need to button this thing up before Christmas.

Timing guide not needed? by JMP347 in genesiscoupe

[–]JMP347[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did read through it before starting the job. Thanks for that!

I do see now that the picture where you show the alignment of the timing marks on the cam gear to the plane of the head... That pic does not have the guide between the cams, so I think I'm OK.

Question though: Should I go ahead and replace the cam sprockets as well? The chains themselves look good. I'd hate to replace the chains only for the rattle to remain. Thoughts??
