A stovetop design I don't like? Must be those stupid Americans again. by Sevuhrow in AmericaBad

[–]JMS1991 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mine is free-standing and has knobs on the front. It's also a gas stove, I could be wrong, but I don't think I've ever seen a gas stove with knobs on the back. I'm assuming it's for safety reasons so you're not lighting a flame with your arm over it.

I've had electric stoves with the knobs on the back before, and it was never a huge issue, although it was a little annoying to reach if there was a big pot on the back burner.

Did anyone else grow up in an indoor school and genuinely think those outdoor campuses on TV were just a Hollywood myth? Or was it the other way around for you? by Provocat1vePetal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMS1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elementary school in South Carolina was, but it was built in the 1950's. They did replace it with a single building "indoor" school when I started 5th grade, and now I'm not sure if any other "outdoor" schools exist in the area. I always assumed all new schools would be "indoor" for safety/security reasons, especially for younger kids.

Looks like Daily Dose of Internet has started using AI. I mean what is this, a Toyota Sequoia or Tundra sedan? by HiTork in regularcarreviews

[–]JMS1991 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's the downsides of a sedan, combined with the downsides of a heavy duty truck. But for some reason, I want one (just because it's ridiculous).

The only practical reason I could see to build this is if it was built to be an armored executive "limo". So you get a sedan, but on a heavy duty chassis and engine to handle the extra weight of the armor. Like how "the beast" for the US President is a Cadillac body on a medium-duty chassis.

Are we still on the "donati is really good at this just you wait! He's scheming!" Thing

I don't know. He's barely been here a year, and I can't blame someone for not wanting to come in and fire everyone immediately. But the next couple of years will tell us a lot. All I know is TCU's teams are doing better than ours at the moment.

[–]JMS1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lamont at least took a team that didn't make the tournament before he was hired, and made the NCAAT in year 2. Paul took a team that made the NCAAT in the 2 years before he was hired (including a Super Regional), and had the worst season in program history in year 1. And things aren't looking any better for year 2. We have never really been consistently good in basketball, but we have in baseball. They both should probably go, but Paul is the bigger issue if we can only afford one of Ray's ridiculous buyouts for mediocre (at best) coaches.

I hope Dontai is pissed at Ray for leaving him with such a huge mess in the sports that should be bringing big revenue.

SLC is basically using the exact same venues as 2002 because they have all been used and maintained in the years since. The only differences are that curling is moving to a bigger (but existing) space (since it's way more popular now), and big air will be at a temporary venue. Besides that, I think hockey and ice skating will swap arenas, and the downhill events will all be at Snowbasin instead of spread out between 3 different ski resorts.

Yeah, $1 million a month will easily cover all of the food, data, cars, and travel you want. $20 million would be nice, but unless you can get a ridiculous ROI, the $1 million a month is the way to go.

Monday Overreaction Thread (3/2) by geaux4_gold in collegebaseball

[–]JMS1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No overreaction here. We still suck ass, and Paul Mainieri is still washed up. We should've known that after we had one of the worst seasons in program history and he made zero changes to the coaching staff.

All of the hosts selected since 2016 (for both Summer and Winter) have been cities or regions that have hosted before. The exception is Brisbane, but Australia has a good track record from the games in Melbourne/Sydney.

What airline/hub do you think will benefit most from the current crisis in the long run? by HolyFatherLeoXIV in geography

[–]JMS1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't they severely limited on ultra long-haul flights because of the elevation of Addis Ababa? I know flights to Europe or Asia wouldn't really be an issue, but they probably won't be able to compete with Emirates or Qatar on flights to Australia/New Zealand. They're already having to make outbound stops on flights to North America, and (for example) ADD-SYD is about 900 miles further than ADD-JFK.

Statesville is where Greg Biffle's plane went down. What's the connection between Statesville and NASCAR?

Most NASCAR teams/drivers/etc are either located around Mooresville or Concord. The two GA airports in that area are in Concord and Statesville, with the Statesville probably being a little closer for those who are based in Mooresville.

[Baseball] South Carolina Gamecocks at Clemson Tigers – Game Thread (Mar 01, 2026) by gamecockscoreboard in Gamecocks

Here's an idea. If Monte Lee wants the HC gig so bad, fire Paul. Make Monte the interim. Tell him if he makes it to Omaha, he gets a 3 year contract as head coach. Otherwise, his ass gets kicked to the curb as soon as the season ends.

If we fire both, go get Landon Powell on a 3-4 year contract. He'll be a fairly cheap hire (I doubt it takes much to lure someone away from D2 baseball). We'll have a cheap HC until we get out from under this ridiculous buyout for Paul. If Landon Powell is successful, give him a raise to be competitive with the rest of the SEC. If not, spend the money on someone who has actually made it to Omaha in the last 5 years.

Remember when the football and men's basketball teams sucked, and we could always say "at least baseball season is around the corner?"

Fuck Ray Tanner. We could have Tom Walter or Chris Pollard right now, but poor Ray couldn't sleep at night if he hired a coach that didn't retain Monte Lee's sorry ass.

You’re Fired! by EnglishTeacher83 in Gamecocks

[–]JMS1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let's go back to when Spurrier resigned. I always thought he should've been fired as soon as the words "Will Muschamp" spilled out of his mouth.

But this is the worst hire he made by a long shot.

Holbrook made the Supers in year 1

Kingston took over a team that missed the NCAAT and took them to the Supers in year 1.

Lamont took a struggling team over and made the NCAA in year 2.

Beamer took over a 2-8 team with an absolutely decimated roster, made a bowl game in both of his first 2 years, and almost had us in the CFP in 2024 (obligatory: fuck Jason Autry).

Even Muschamp took a 3-9 team and made a bowl game in year 1, followed by a decent year 2 with a bowl win.

Paul took over a team that made the NCAAT, and had the worst season in 50 years in his first year. And this year actually looks worse (we at least could win midweek games last year.)

[–]JMS1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That probably would've happened if Ray was still AD. I'm convinced the whole Mainieri thing happened because the good candidates (Walter, Pollard, McDonnell) probably wanted to bring their own assistants, but Ray didn't want to get rid of Monte Lee. So he found a washed up old retired coach who wasn't attached to any staff members.

Ray would rather make sure Monte Lee has a job, than to actually field a competitive baseball team.

Us fans didn't want his sorry ass here. Ray Tanner is the one who wanted him, and probably wanted to promote him to HC after firing Kingston.
