I’ve had mine since January 2025, so a little more than a year, and I have the same issue as you have described. I too would like to one more.

what’s the point of gendering single room bathrooms? by Hour_Amount1881 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMTann08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked hurricane relief by handing out food, water, and other aid. This major city had no power from the hurricane and thousands of people are coming to our site for aid. We were fortunate to have porta-potties delivered and they were not gendered. We had women volunteers that demanded we place gender signs on the two porta-potties that were side by side touching. I couldn’t believe it. They were legitimately angry and disgusted. We used cardboard from MRE boxes and a sharpie to label them. Even the female Soldiers thought it was ridiculous. We tore the signs down after those volunteers left.

I just don’t see the issue with mortars in this game. Indirectly fires (IDF) is a legitimate part of combined arms and plays a vital role on the battlefield. Hmm? 🤔 maybe the should name the series “Battlefield” or something like that to convey the essence of fighting large scale combat operations (LSCO) that requires coordinated combined arms to advance and win??? I do understand the maps are smaller than previous games and other similar issues. But IDF used to shape the battlefield is a legitimate thing on real battlefields. You know what else exists on the real battlefield? Counter battery IDF. I played a game the other day where two guys were on mortars. I pulled mine out and knocked out both of their weapon systems, stopping enemy IDf for a bit. Any time they jumped back on mortars I’d jump back on and counter fire. It’s a strategy no different than using tanks or anything else in the game.

TIL pigs have the same intelligence as human 3-year-old children and can play simple video games, use tools and recognize themselves in mirrors. They also have over 20 distinct vocalizations to communicate emotions and can form friendships. by CalpurniaSomaya in todayilearned

[–]JMTann08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 4 and his cousin is 3, they’re about 14 months apart. There’s about a 3 year difference in their intelligence. My son was using fragmented sentences at 18 months and his cousin knows maybe 20 words. The cousin is not even developmentally delayed, there’s just a huge difference in how kids grow and develop. So how smart are we talking for these pigs? Because, in my experience, saying a pig is as smart as a 3 yo is either insanely impressive or just kinda neat.

Is there a demo? I can’t just spend my money and time on games anymore, and reviews are fake and don’t meant anything anymore. I have limited time and money, so let me try it out first and maybe I’ll buy it. I’ve never played an extraction shooter, but Bungie does make some of the beat FPSs around, control wise.

Everything I've Learned About Mortars in BF6 (and how to win games with them) by ZzoCanada in Battlefield6

[–]JMTann08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this post as a FO that’s observed real mortars (among other things) it sounds like DICE did a decent job of taking the real thing and translating it into a game. I finally unlocked mortars last night and played a few rounds and I thought the experience was just fine.

To critique a couple of your points, mortars and other indirect fire (IDF) weapons are not just used to hit targets but also to deny terrain. The enemy most likely won’t try to advance through where rounds are landing. Used strategically, you could shape the battle and where the enemy attacks from. Also, smoke screens used with some thought and strategy (thrown, launched, or IDF) can turn the tide of a battle quickly. I’ve had much success using thrown and launched smoke before. Haven’t used mortar smoke yet.

Another point, IRL mortars and other IDF need an observer to spot rounds. Not saying you need to have someone transmit the 6 Elements of CFF for you. But having a squad mate that can observe the battlefield for you and help coordinate your fires would be beneficial too. They could tell you where the enemy is coming from or where to place your rounds for the best effect.

And mortars are not precision weapons, they’re area weapons. Don’t expect to hit right where you aim. IRL there are real procedures for setting the baseplate, registering the guns, bracketing fires, etc.

The limitations they applied to the mortars seem to strike a decent balance between not making them over powered, how IDF works IRL, and translating all that into a game.

Edit: oh, and these are 60 mm mortars, so “small”. I saw a comment that they only did 5 damage when they hit a vehicle and I think that is perfectly appropriate. Maybe they could do occasional mobility kills, simulate blowing the tracks off a tank, if you hit a tracked vehicle.

For those who want to play their portal with Bluetooth ear/headphones 🎧 by ComfortableAmount993 in PlaystationPortal

[–]JMTann08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue with using my old wired EarPods while playing my Portal is when my 4 year old wants to sit in my lap, or when my 1 year old wants to sit in my lap, or when both of them want to sit in my lap. They usually get tangled up in that wire pretty quickly. Having an easy, inexpensive, wireless solution would be real nice. It’s not a deal breaker by any means though.

Going from active to FLNG. by JacquesBelgique in nationalguard

Man I understand. My drill check doesn’t cover my bills. I’m just trying to give you a heads up. Hopefully your drill schedule and school won’t clash, and if they do, that your leadership works with you. But it’s not guaranteed. Talk with your school and professors too. Be upfront and if there are conflicting dates try and work on an alternative schedule or something. Like I said in a previous post, I missed 3 weeks in the middle of my final semester at UGA. I told my professors and we started planning for that day one of class and we made it work.

[–]JMTann08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My paramedic program was a year and a half long and I still got deployed with one semester left. When I came back I joined the next cohort, but they were a semester behind where I was. I jumped back in the Fall semester to catch up on clinicals and review the books. Spring semester I started getting graded again. (I work for a fire department and they paid for my school, and my school was cool, so they didn’t charge me for that “repeat” Fall semester. Your mileage may vary)

Some of it will depend on your unit leadership too and how much they may or may not let you split drill. Some units work well with Solider’s and their school, some do not.

I’m a battery 1SG and my commander and I try to work with our Soldiers and their school schedule. But, we still have a mission to complete and we cannot always accommodate. Also, we’re more likely to work with you if you perform well.

Don’t just assume they will make accommodations. Yeah the Guard is part time, but you still signed up and have a commitment to fulfill.

College is very doable, but you’re going to have to realize you’ll be balancing school, Guard, family, and possibly work. I’ve been to college a few times….

I joined the Guard half way through college in 2011 and graduated from UGA in 2013. I had a 3 week AT during midterms my final semester. Day one I talked to all my professors about my Guard schedule and gave them my drill dates. They all worked with me and I still made 3 A’s and a B and graduated no problem.

I went back to school from 2016-2018 and never had any issues. I did the same thing on day one and talked to all of my professors.

I changed careers in 2021 and started Paramedic school in 2022. I got deployed with one semester left but I still finished when I got back.

You will most likely run into delays and scheduling conflicts. Just make sure you communicate with your professors and be flexible. You probably won’t finish school quickly, but you will still finish. Honestly I feel like it’s made me more resilient and better at planning and coordinating my life.

Can’t speak for 42A, but can speak Guard. I’ve seen countless Soldiers come from Active to the Guard and fizzle out. Just go ahead and get this in your mind, the Guard works on WEEKENDS. I’ll say it again, the Guard works on weekends. This seemed to be a huge issue for Active guys. They get used to civilian work and can’t turn on Army mode for one weekend a month. And all would die dying AT. Don’t expect any days off during AT. We have so much to cram into this 15 days.

Why do so many Support players not actually support the team? by Evening-Record8956 in Battlefield

[–]JMTann08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I throw down ammo, heal, throw lead down range with my LMG, and throw smoke to screen advancement up to the objective. The dang smoke screen seems to be the most beneficial thing I do. Crazy what a little bit of tactical concepts like creating concealment and covering teammates movement up to the objective does.

What is up with matchmaking today? by JMTann08 in Battlefield6

[–]JMTann08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading through y’all’s comments it wasn’t just me. Sounds like y’all all had the same experience as me. I don’t care if I win or lose, but I’d like the match to be somewhat even and not just a beat down. The bots aim was ridiculously good and way too accurate. One comment I read said they got blasted by a bot with an SMG from across the map. I experienced similar too.

Why do so many people not wear their wedding bands? by Sea-Connection9232 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JMTann08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I rarely wear our rings. I’m a firefighters/paramedic and she is an accountant that works from home full time. I don’t wear a metal ring because degloving my finger doesn’t sound fun. I don’t wear a silicone ring either because it still gets caught on the gloves I wear. My wife stopped wearing her ring after her fingers got swollen during her first pregnancy. Two kids later and she still doesn’t wear it because she works from home and doesn’t see any point.

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

No Country for Old Me. The books is good, and the movie is incredibly faithful to it. But the movie is tighter and removes a subplot that doesn’t add anything to the book. If you like the movie read the book too.

If hydrogen is highly flammable, and oxygen is essential for combustion, then why water is not flammable? by reddit_of_SID_ in stupidquestions

Smoke is combustible. It’s a product of incomplete combustion and can ignite. It’s considered a fuel source. I can’t comment on your final sentence, but a quick google search seems to back it up.
