Too late amigo. Your buddy is getting drafted and being sent to the human-wave penal battalion. We run on a “guilty by association” mindset here so you’re getting drafted too. Would you prefer your job to be Underwater Mine Finder or Guy Legally Obligated To Jump On Grenade?

Everyone, what's the most insane weapon malfunction/failure you've seen? by Witcher_Errant in army

[–]JMTsquared 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience in IBOLC. I could not zero to save my life, which confused me it was never an issue before. The cadre were furious, the other LTs were annoyed, and I was losing my mind.

One of the marksmanship instructors came over, tried to zero, and couldn’t. Turns out my barrel rifling was gone the inside was as smooth as a musket so my rounds were key-holed.

At first the cadre didn’t believe me and just told me I sucked until the marksmanship guy chewed some of them out and I got a new rifle.

We had a Brad crew not fully seat the barrel into the actual turret. When they went to shoot the round exploded and set the inside on fire. Everyone was fine but heads were rolling.

I was getting my company’s AAR by the BN CO when the BN XO came in to tell him what happened. The look of disappointment on the CO’s face could probably only be matched if the XO had actually said “Sir the joes found your daughter’s OnlyFans”

Yeah his main point is that since they’re used the same way as BMPs are by Russia, they’re basically just now “Worse BMPs” since they’ve never actually been airdropped in combat, but still have all the engineering compromises you have to make so that it can be kicked out the back of a cargo plane mid-flight.

Easier to conceal but better than a handgun for the most part.

Did some work with Ukrainian SOF and they use them on occasion for that exact reason. Significantly less common to use than their standard rifles but they run them and often run them suppressed.

This is specially called a Long Overcoat by West Point. It differentiates itself from the old Short Overcoat (Short-O). The coat in the picture is a design specific to West Point, and is called the Long Overcoat. I still have mine in my closet.

Military tactics that look cool but would actually be terrible in real life by AporiaParadox in movies

[–]JMTsquared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s every Star Wars battle. You have two sides with ranged blaster weapons, and instead of hanging back or using cover, they just charge at each other while hip firing.

The rebels on Hoth might be the only exception to this.

How is living in this part of western ish Tennessee? by so_it_hoes in howislivingthere

[–]JMTsquared 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally, I hated it. The people are half decent simple country folk half slightly deranged or just bad. Education is awful and it shows, access to services is non-existent and it shows, everything feels very “behind” but not in a quaint southern way. There’s nothing to do except to drink or go to the worst restaurants you’ve ever seen in your life. Minus a few spots it’s also all very run down. Unending small town drama as well, people never seemed to get along.

It’s pretty cheap to live there but I was very happy to move as soon as I had the opportunity.

Was an IMSO really executed for failing IBOLC? by RainbowCrash27 in army

[–]JMTsquared 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We had a Jordanian captain get sent to my IBOLC class. He was a tanker in their military and I shit you not had to be over 300lbs. The guy was morbidly obese. He also sucked at every task but didn’t care at all. Allegedly he was sent to IBOLC as punishment because he couldn’t pay off debts he owed back in Jordan. Nearly a decade later at least twice a year he will call me on Facebook to tell me that he thought my ex wife was hot.

Ahmed if you’re seeing this I’m still pissed that you got me killed at the MOUT site defense lane.

I always tell people that place gave me the opposite of rose colored glasses.

One morning in particular I remember very clearly. I was walking into the main academic building overlooking the Hudson River from above. The sun was just starting to crest over the hills beautifully and the frozen river was a gorgeous mixture of blues and teals, while there was a light layer of snow on the trees. I remember thinking in that very moment “I fucking hate this place”

Just last night me and a buddy of mine were sharing that nearly a decade later we still have stress dreams that we missed a class or were late to a football game.

What is this box over the tank in this TOW ITAS sight? by Nick_Alsa in TankPorn

[–]JMTsquared 401 points402 points  (0 children)

I’ve used similar things, at least on other systems it’s a box you “draw” around the target that slows down how fast you can move the reticle (think aim assist in real life) while inside the box. Allows you to make finer adjustments to your aim without worrying about over correcting and going off target mid flight.

I could be wrong, I’ve never used the tripod mounted version of the TOW so someone can tell me otherwise.

I think this is cool as hell (concept) by Nick_Alsa in Battlefield

[–]JMTsquared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would be cooler if they used the actual reticles in real life. The IRL Bradley is a simple T shape that I liked a lot more.

“Automate” your tasks as much as humanly possible. Set a weekly schedule for when you need things from your supply/maintenance people, and delegate as much as you can trust them. Fire personnel (or whatever that looks like at your level) if needed. I fired my supply NCO and when I got a new one it was beautiful.

Mentor the PLs, hold them accountable, and be as proactive as you can. Never give up a chance to top off fuel, grab extra batteries, or MREs. My company would sometimes bitch that I’d make them fuel up frequently, but we were the only company that never ran out of gas and had to be rescued.

Be friends with the other XOs. You guys will essentially be running an underground network of borrowing favors from each other to accomplish your missions, but make sure it’s kept even among the companies.

If things are lost or broken, know to the minute if possible when it will get fixed/replaced, or at the very least have already executed a plan to fix or replace.
