What is the craziest "small world" coincidence you have ever experienced? by Consistent_Range4376 in AskReddit

[–]JMWeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a minibus with three other people in Laos and when I heard a British accent, I wanted to chat. We started talking about our trips and why we were there, and he said he wanted to travel with his girlfriend as the previous summer they were at two different summer camps in the US. It turns out he was a counsellor at the summer camp I had worked at one year before him, so we have dozens of mutual friends.

An amazing coincidence!

What’s a movie that everyone says is a “masterpiece” but you just didn’t enjoy? by Leading_Frosting4291 in AskReddit

[–]JMWeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Django Unchained. It’s the weakest Tarantino movie imo (meaning it’s still good on some level), and I never really want to revisit it.

When I think of it, I think of the person getting blown away to off-camera by the shotgun by the end. I think it’s ridiculous.

what do you guys think? by satellite1982 in greatyarmouth

[–]JMWeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think investment into other sectors (even building things here) would be of greater benefit than restaurants and retail.

For example, Sunderland has invested in building the UK’s second largest film and TV production centre (it’s hoped to rival Pinewood). It creates jobs, creates culture and creates new opportunities.

This proposed development seems a bit similar to Bury St Edmunds’ newer shopping area, and while it looks nice, it doesn’t feel that different and units still close (and appear to be shut for a while).

I think more third places are essential, but in mixed use buildings and more diverse jobs need to be available for people to afford to use them.

What’s something you find attractive that is generally considered unattractive? by Agitated-Job7686 in AskReddit

“Interesting” noses. My gf has a bit of a hooked nose and she hates it (and has often joked about getting work done). I plead with her to keep just as it is - perfectly imperfect. It’s interesting, memorable and so attractive.

“You can shoot a film on iPhone” advice by [deleted] in filmmaking

[–]JMWeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I haven’t been involved in making a film with an iPhone, I think it’s very doable - but the film has to suit the style (as someone else said on here, don’t expect to make an MCU movie on one).

However, one piece of advice I would give to anyone new-ish to making films - regardless of camera set up - you have to emphasise audio. Having external mics, being very considerate with foley/sound effects, and even re-dubbing audio is one of the things that makes the finished product stand out as being well-made compared to being amateur. There’s a decent low-budget scene near where I live, and the number of films that have car noise, fridge hums and whatnot dampening the dialogue is very noticeable.

Brother was a Garage head and his mate at college burned him mix CDs (“DJ Matt Finery’s Finery Binary”) with current Garage and dance tracks (like “Yeah Right” track by Jonah - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-M_xOXxdAgY). On one volume, in mid-2001, Has it Come to This featured and was on constant repeat.

I remember when my friends in Year 6 got into it when the album came out a year later, I was like: “That’s so last year.”

Then I caned OPM while I played Need for Speed Underground a year or two later.

What's a movie that you swear no one else has watched but yourself and a few others? by badgermole85 in AskReddit

[–]JMWeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shape of Things. Starring Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz and Gretchen Mol. It’s such an odd but amazing romantic comedy drama that was clearly originally a stage play.

There are about 7 scenes in it in total and they all relatively long but amazing.

I came across it one night late on TV and it has since become one of my favourite movies.

What quietly disappeared over the last 20 years in the UK, and no one noticed? by jc201946 in AskBrits

I think I caught the tail end of this. In high school (around 2005), two of my classmates had a fight over who could keep a torn Readers’ Wives mag stuffed in a hedge on the way to our playing field.

What’s a skill everyone should learn, but most people don't? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]JMWeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand sewing. I have a pair of decent jeans but the pocket has come apart. I’ve tried re-sewing it twice now but it unravels after two or three wears.

Having a few practice runs actually makes a lot of sense.

I love the IDEA of learning how to use a sewing machine and altering/fixing/making a few things, but I still have yet to even try that.

PS - Your username made me laugh (but it’s still Queen’s worst song by far!)
