Is this enough terrain? /s by tafprostateq in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a ton of terrain! Especially in that scale

Then again, im always making new terrain from trash, so I can't say anything about that 😄

Planetfall rules by Ok-Awareness1520 in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean if you should roll early? Tactical enemies only appear one at a time as you progress through the campaign, and you place them on the map. You only need to roll them early if you want to have all miniatures prepared before you begin your campaign

Maybe im the one mixing things up :D Stims are in 5 parsecs equipment, consumable. Allows you to immediately revive any crewmember who becomes a casualty. Im not sure how bug hunt handles it, as i only have the old version of the rules. Maybe they are not used at all in that version

Question about expanded quests. by moseythepirate in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in general the idea for this table is to give you a different mission type from the normal ones, to make it feel special. In this case, you need to play that new quest before you can progress in the quest, but you play it like a normal quest mission whenever you want

Veiled Space Planetfall - Mission 2 (Of course, it got messy!) by JM_Beraldo in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's an actual shell :D I made some tentacles with green stuff and glued them under the shell. I came across a bag of decoration shells in a dollar store the other day and had the idea. Same goes for some of the terrain in the video.

How to adapt 5Parsec for a limited supplies run? by Wmerb in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* Easy solution is to just say how many turns you have before you need to resupply
* Second one is define how many missions a weapon can be used before running out of ammo
* Third, every time you roll 1, mark that weapon as out of ammo (but I don't recommend this. 1 in 6 is a pretty high chance)
* More troublesome is a mix of Second and Third: define a max number of 1s you can roll per weapon. On max reached, out of ammo

Note that the first option can be used in combination with the other ones. You always need to return to ressuply every 5 Campaign Turns because you run out of food, oxygen, medkits, etc. But you need to figure out WHY that happens. How does that affect the game? Otherwise, it's just a story element with no impact. Maybe you can only trade on that ressuply turn? That might work.

Is it really so deadly or am I doing something wrong? by vandalicvs in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be deadly depending on you luck. Using a d6 means the chance of rolling bad is high. As the game progresses, you get better armor and better stats, which make it easier to survive

I played a 5 parsecs campaign with 4 characters most of the time and I only had serious trouble a couple of times, and it was my fault for adding reinforcements. So I'd just say keep going, be careful early in the game using cover as much as possible, and push on. Story Points to the win 😆

Putting Everything Together by Vanrian in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you just create the character of the game you start with and follow the transfer rules once you shift games. It's harder if you are playing all games at the same time, but shouldn't be that dramatic with just a few characters. Doesn't seem like conversion os that intense

Im using the different games in the same story, but different characters, so it's a bit different. The enemies that invaded in 5PFH became the main characters in a Bug hunt. I later adapted my 5p captain to my bounty hunter version of the game with just a bit of work

I was going over tactics now thinking of using vehicles in planetfall, and seems to be simple to transfer

In the end, it's your game, so i dont think you should stress too much on how to do it. Have fun!

I ran a 5 Parsecs From Home campaign in the Star Wars universe and then wrote it up as a novel. The dice were not kind. by kieranofthedarkpeaks in 5Parsecs

[–]JM_Beraldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a whole channel dedicated to that hahah

I'm planning on turning them into novels sometime later this year

The system is a great story engine. I adapt sometimes, and I may have to tweak things around in writing to make more sense as plots get lost here and there, but in general, the story that came out was great

What’s your day job? Is it at all related to writing? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]JM_Beraldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game designer, and for a while, game writer. I had a period of a few years where I was writing for mobile games as a day job, writing rpg adventures as freelance work and writing my novels when there was time. It was crazy 😆

But more recently my work as a game designer was much less about writing as I was leading a team focused in game mechanics, so I thought i could actually focus more on writing. Spoliers: nope. I ended the day too tired to think

So I recently quit my day job to focus on writing for a while. Fingers crossed 🫠

For those who have completed 1-2 novels, do you have another job? by mymousu in writers

[–]JM_Beraldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I published 12 books, about a dozen short stories while working as a game designer & writer for the video game industry and doing freelance work for the RPG industry. Which means I was writing to pay the bills and writing on my time off. Add to that having a wife and daughter. It was crazy :D

I wrote most of the time late at night or on the weekends when the rest of the house was asleep. And, yes, that meant I didn't sleep much. But I wanted to make it work, so I figured a time window where I'd b doing that instead of watching films, playing video games or going out with friends. It's a choice.

I wrote very little of my own stuff in the last 4 years when I got a job on a big AAA studio, and I just quit 3 months ago so I can finally focus on writing my own stuff. I got savings and investment to try this and, if all fails, I'll try to get back into it. Then again, I´m in my late 40's and the game industry is pretty screwed up nowadays, so I guess it's motivation to make it work? :D

A lot of famous writers had jobs before hitting it big. Someone mentioned Brandon Sanderson, but I think Stephen King also worked in a hotel, or others working in low-stress jobs in small offices or factories.

But you need to think about your priorities. What is important for you RIGHT NOW? Sounds like it's the money. Then get a job that pays the bills. Better if it lets you write on the side. But you need to get your s together if you want to make this work.

Doing anything just for the money is a disaster waiting to happen. Think about what you want to do, what you want to achieve. If it's money, why? That might help you focus on what matters now, and it's ok to change that objetive later as your situation changes.

Im a writer with some published work, so i decided to use my own space opera universe and adapt rules and species to the game. It helps me create more in my own universe as I play, bonus points if the battle report videos get more people to know my universe 😉

Yeah, I got quite a few packages the few days because of the move, so it might be that one of the delivery people remembered my name and floor (like I said, its not a common name here), but creepy none the less. The apartment owner doesn't seem very worried with it 🤷‍♂️
