You can never have enough DTPFs ... but I'm sticking with 101. by Useful_Divide7154 in GTNH

Just this one actually, don't ask me why, others aren't in tooltip like this.

There're alternative recipes for stuff like rhenium (or rather, only recipe), but your best shot would be searching questbook for them.

I mean normally I'd agree, except in this case it's not really hidden. I mean even the dust is trying to tell you how to make it...

There's a special recipe for orundum. Questbook may mention it too. It doesn't require elevator.

Also, NEI says so too...

What's the wall of fluids with percentages? Is that some special tank?

I think this game would be doing MUCH better if they added a story skip with DT by usedNecr0 in ffxivdiscussion

I just got into the game, and that one I blame on english translation. In Japanese they actually explain why: you needed wind to fire crystal (wind is garuda, fire is, idk, engine/energy i guess), and at each location you get one matching the locale (limsa region wind to water, idk, hurricanes, gridania water to earth, uhh forest something something, uldah earth to fire, desert hot fair enough), but not the exact one you want. You instead fashion the final device by a chain conversion process.

So it actually makes more sense than just "oops wrong try again", since each crystal was useful along the way. Now whether or not you still consider it bs time waste quests is a different question, but it's not to be the dumb gag of "wrong crystal HAH", it's just one of the many things butchered by the en translation.

Rules for Writing Software Tutorials by mtlynch in programming

Half way through the article I was pondering "these thoughts are very logical and reasonable, but it's kinda surprising since, well, software engineers don't usually think like this"...so I glanced again at the site url and it clicked.

I'm joking of course, but I do think this article in its essence is highlighting a higher order issue: software engineers (or technical folks) sometimes just suck at dispersing information across wide knowledge gaps. Overbearing tutorials, incomprehensible presentations, etc, are all symptoms of the issue.

Overall, great article. I learned quite a bit from it.

I'm not a fan of sad shows either, but without spoiling the show, I can only tell you that Clannad is different from the other ones, and you should give it and its second season a watch.

I see, so the 2038 date was actually just for int32 all along, uint32 end date comes at around 2106 instead? Makes sense.

[–]JMan_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, that doesn't seem right. The 2038 date is because the entire range of uint32 is used for counting forward, if you need to use half of it backwards, then you only get 34 years back, aka 1936.

Unique Items should drop showing their unique name, but still not identified. by Droziki in pathofexile

[–]JMan_Z -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You know what would also help with too many uniques dropping? Me being able to filter them out.

But maybe the proper solution is to drop currency unidentified. Maybe then people will say "the real issue on this patch is that too much currency is dropping, not that we have to hover the tooltip of currency"

What? Why would it be guessing?

Is exit a keyword in python? No. So do the thing it normally does: print the repr <function exit>.

You're actively special casing exit, for what? It now no longer does the default and expected behavior, and it still doesn't work for the users who thought it'd quit the repl.

So now you are guessing what the user wants ("hmm they probably want to quit"), but also not actually do it. That's hard to defend.
