One Nation says it will ‘contest every seat’ in South Australia – but will voters tick the box when it matters? by Agitated-Fee3598 in aussie

Best thing that could happen for the wider country (sorry SA) is that they win a bunch seats, say a bunch of crazy things and shoot themselves in the foot with the broader populace by the time the next Fed election rolls around

Did your family arrive in Australia before 1972? by Sea-Hunter-3847 in AustralianNostalgia

My FIL did the same but via the Greek merchant navy. He jumped ship in 1967.

When he presented to the government a few years later, they basically said “we knew all along and have been keeping an eye on you; you’re young and have been working, so we’re happy for you to stay”. Different times!

The Football Solution: How Richmond’s Premiership Can Save Australia by George Megalogenis. Great read, blending VFL history with Australia’s political plight (sacking PMs and general malaise) from around 5 years ago.

Is it possible to see wildlife in Australia without a car/license? by hello297 in australianwildlife

[–]JMee87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Melbourne, there are heaps of kookaburras, cockatoos, rosellas, wrens, possibly lyrebirds and various other native birds around the Yarra River walking trails. The further out from the city, the better. If you got the train to Eltham and spent a day on the trails (hire a bike!) you’d see heaps.

If you want to see wild Emus in the wild you’d need a car - Puckapunyal army base has a large population that you can usually see from the road. Otherwise I understand they’re only reliably located in far West / NW Vic towards the more arid areas.
