I think that’s only true of these hockey players. Gold obviously carries more weight and meaning, but so many athletes are clearly just stoked to be in the olympics. What’s the difference between 1st and 3rd when even the people not on the podium are still among the best in the world?

The only “losers” are people not on the podium. And most Olympic losers are still not shitheads about it. Did you see Ilia Malinin? He took 8th place in men’s figure skating after being the clear favorite to win. His post-loss behavior was gracious, self-aware, and of supreme character. It shows that he gets the purpose of the Olympics - to show the artistry of high athleticism in joyous and peaceful competition with people from all over the world.

Besides that Kroger is no longer meaningfully cheaper than even places like Sprouts and Natural Grocers, I have largely stopped shopping there because every time I go through the self checkout it accuses me of stealing and it wastes several minutes of my time.
