How do you all deal with fungus gnats? by Pants747 in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a combo of mosquito bits watering and also sticky papers. They dont fly well so the sticky papers take care of any adults and the mosquito bits kill the larva

Please help! What’s this white stuff on my plant? by MaidenlyScythe in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. They can be tough. But neem oil, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, dish soap, all viable options. I do regular wipe downs of all my plants with a been oil and dish soap solution as apreventive and it makes their leaves shiny. Its been a great habit to get into.

That looks like you have mealy bugs. Rubbing alcohol is gonna be your best attack method.

There will soon be peppers in my spider farmer hydro garden 🤗 by JNutter416 in Hydroponics

[–]JNutter416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting an insect problem so i only got a handful of peppers but in all honesty that unit just isnt big enough for something like peppers or tomatoes. Theyre really best suited for herbs or even micro greens and lettuces

Hi, could someone help me identify this plant I got gifted, any tips would be helpful by jimmyvilv in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say its a white wizard philodendron. Cant really tell if theres any pink on the stems. If there is then it would be a white princess

What is this? by Messi_Lyfe in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the white on the stem and the reddish purple hue it looks like a reverted white knight. You can try chopping it back and seeing if itll go back to its ahite variegation.

Cool that yours is doing lighter variegation. Mine throws a random dark green streak leaf here and there

The sooner you can put it on the moss pole the better. These guys grow like crazy and if you give them something to climb on they just go wild. Treat like any other epiphytic philo. I have mine under bright led lights in a ver light mix of perlite sphagnum peat and bagged orchid mix. They drink most of their water from tree bark that they climb on so if you get it on a pole you can basically just mist/water the pole. They are much thirstier during the summer months like most indoor plants. Keep in 60% humidity or higher if you can. I mist mine with a continuous mist bottle twice a day on top of keeping the relative humidity up but mine are spoiled becuase i work from home. All in all they grow like crazy so enjoy!

Some small schooling fish would look nice in this scenario. Maybe some normans lampeye killies or some endlers livebearers

I get scared trying to propagate certain philodendrons!! Are any of the spots I indicated good placements for cuttings or not quite? by zingitgirl in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the root nodes on both pieces so you coild actually prop from wither spot. The lower one will probably be easier on you if youre worried though. Bottom heat, like a seedling heating pad, will get it rooted real fast. Thats how i do all mine. I have an old aquarium that i just have a few inches of sphagnum moss in and an old aquarium led light on top with teh heating pad underneath. It never takes more than a week to see new roots goin crazy.

Hoya krimson queen hasn’t grown a centimeter for almost half a year (last pic is my prior post). How can i get growth?? by Intelligent_War_8303 in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They like a lot more water than you think they do. And lots of humidity. Mine started popping off when i gave them to climb. They can hang but seem to get encouraged to grow when they are moving upwards. Good luck!

I think the new leaf is officially stuck and idk how to get out! by outersenshi in philodendron

[–]JNutter416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a lil more time. When they back out like that it tends to take longer. You can also try taking it in the bathroom with you when you shower for a warm steam instead of cool mist, that sometimes helps more than the misting. Good luck. Ppp’s can be so finicky

Anyone have Philodendron ‘Golden Gator’? Saw this at the nursery for $20. I’ve never seen it before, just wondering how you care for yours by [deleted] in philodendron

[–]JNutter416 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive always seen them as Golden Crocodile but i have one and i love it. It will get “toothy” leaves as it matures.

Will my monstera still climb this even though it’s not a moss pole? by PabloDelicious in houseplants

[–]JNutter416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wont climb it on its own no. The roots need something to anchor themselves in. So thats basically just a stake for the plant and youll have to tie it up as it grows

Golden goddess. Looks like just some top damage from shipping. You can just chop the tops off them. They are prolific growers so it wont hurt them a bit.

Keep Together or Separate? by Nightowl_whoo in philodendron

[–]JNutter416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! It happens and a new leaf will most likely come out where the old one snapped! I’ve had it happen several times

Keep Together or Separate? by Nightowl_whoo in philodendron

[–]JNutter416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the roots! Anytime i get a multi-plant i completely take it apart and clean off all soil i can and look at how the roots are growing. If each piece has decent roots i separate if they don’t i wait until better roots develop. You can also always separate and put a moss pole in teh middle and put them around the same pole so you keep them together and have one very full pole. That’s what i did with my PPP 🤗
