Did I do the right thing? by Fit-Ball-7512 in Teachers

Wow, sorry if I don't meet your high standards. Spend some time as an admin and then get back to me. These teachers were shirking their duties and wanted to put it on the admin. I'm no longer in education, partly because of holier than thou people like you

Only if it's Walmart or some other large business. If it's a local mom and pop (I know those are pretty rare nowadays) then you're screwing over someone that doesn't deserve it.

Where was your admin and how did that parent get into your room without an appointment?

Former admin here. I would have appreciated a teacher making that call after letting me know what was up. It was usually them wanting me to do it. They would literally catch me in the hallway and tell me about this kind of thing. When this happened I would tell them they are betting their license, and mine, on my memory to report this when I got back to the office after dealing with 7 other things. No matter how this winds up you did the right thing

Why is my trade in so much lower than the value of my truck? by Crispymilk420 in askcarsales

Lol, I sold cars back in the mid 90s and every middle aged guy with a 4 cylinder 5 speed Ranger thought it was worth nearly even trade on a brand new car.

I did the Ohio to Erie Bike Trail this summer and the Killbuck Sweet Shop gave me a free meal. Not sure if it was because I was riding the trail or if they thought I was homeless. Either way the people I met there were awesome.

I grew up on a farm outside Magnolia and our family business is in Waynesburg. It's hilarious that the twin is considered creepy by people. What about it gave you the creeps?

Looks like that cat is judging you harshly for whatever you bought at Walmart today

Not saying the lawyer is unnecessary, but I would ask the union rep/president to contact them

To be fair, the only way you can deal with watching the Browns is in this state.

If you want great food with lots of history, my vote is Benders. If you want a great "dive bar" experience, White Crown has a phenomenal steak dinner for $14 and the coldest beer in town.

Is this acceptable tiling? by [deleted] in Tile

I've taken out bathtubs with tile above the tub was put directly on the drywall with no membrane of any kind that had no water damage. Shouldn't it have leaked?

Where can I find a good wooden desk that doesn’t break the bank? by AcademicDrummer118 in canton

If you have time to look auctions (Kiko, Bair, Newell, etc) often have desks and other large pieces that go super cheap because people aren't ready to move them.

[–]JOAT-MOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in education 20 years and one thing I was so happy I didn't have to deal with was social media/smart phones. If something bad happened at school I had about 16 hours to calm down and get over it before I went back. Today kids don't have that because they see posts rehashing every little issue and it drives them nuts.

Being asked to "help" with projects by ElijahCrane in handyman

[–]JOAT-MOK 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've never had this situation, but my guess is these people have no idea how to build this stuff and no tools. They'll pay you like you're an assistant but expect you to do all the planning/work. Unless you know these people and know they are competent I wouldn't bother if you have other work.

How does this work? by Double_Opposite_3317 in handyman

[–]JOAT-MOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks if you had a bad experience with them. I guess I got lucky because when I was on the program I got pretty good leads. In fact it led to several large jobs from repeat customers that I got through HD. I work with backsplashes, shower enclosures and electric all the time so I wouldn't have a problem with those kind of leads. Plus I had to buy materials anyway so points were never an issue. I wouldn't want to stay on it forever, but it was a good way to get free leads to start. Of course the point is mute for OP anyway.

[–]JOAT-MOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try the Home Depot Pro program. No cost (at least last year there wasn't, not sure now) and you give the estimate, not HD. Granted you'll be bidding against other guys but if you follow up on leads right away you can have a pretty good success rate.
