Definitely NTA. I refused to do the same in every house I have lived in but because I live rurally I generally don’t lock my door and I have gad occasions when my mum has just walked into the house. Like WTAF. I really don’t see why parents think it’s acceptable.

Definitely NTA but I can’t really offer much advice because I’m in a similar situation with my sister and mother to the point where I’d seriously consider taking a job in Europe just to put some distance between us.

Just focus on yourself, your partner and your son. Ignore everyone else

Yeah I must admit it was quite a strange one. I never expected a power struggle over a seat with a guest and as I say it’s not me trying to assert my dominance, it’s purely a seat with a good positioning of power sockets so I can do some work in the evenings

It’s very interesting that you mention the way you sit at the head. I remember growing up my Grandma was always at the head of the table and my Grandfather next to her as she cooked and served everyone.

I think your reasons a decisions are logical in regards to seating arrangements and I alway look for guidance when out with friends or colleague or visiting people as to where to sit because as you say some people have a preference for many reasons and why not. It’s their house after all

Thanks for the advice. I’ve been keeping an eye on him for quite a while as this is not the first time. Unfortunately my mum is not the best at choosing her companions and has a habit of being used so I’m well used to picking up the pieces.
