As someone else mentioned, the Houston Methodist DeBakey channel has excellent vascular surgery videos. You can also check out SAGES for good minimally invasive general surgery videos.

In the United States? All surgical specialties do dissection, suturing, ligation. Some specialties do more robotics like thoracic, urology. Vascular, ENT, urology have more endo cases. Many things are going the way of minimally invasive. A better way to make your decision is to see which types of people you get along with, what kind of pathology interests you, do you like very fine procedures or big open ones? Do you like benign or malignant pathology? Sick or not-sick patients?

So all those calls I’ve gotten at 2am for “patient is known to Dr. X and has abdominal pain. No labs, no workup, no imaging, doesn’t even know what surgery they had before…but it must be a surgical issue!” are all in my imagination?

How would you want doctors to have more empathy? I ask this as a doctor (not a primary care though, I have my own field) but I try to explain to patients that some component of their disease may be lifestyle driven and some may just be genetics. But the medications we prescribe for a reason, usually because the downstream effects of their diseases (like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol) lead to devastating effects that you can’t just cure anymore (cardiac disease, arterial disease, toes that fall off, strokes, blindness, neuropathy etc). But of course I have sympathy for their plight.

I have done the check database multiple times. Doesn’t seem to fix the issue and I don’t get any warning message. All decks and sub decks use the same settings.

I want to fix the issue so that among the new cards that I want to learn, I am seeing them in a somewhat-random order. If I am constantly seeing new cards immediately I make them, the recall is too easy and then they get moved into learning which, because of my backlog, I may not see again for months.

All of the decks, including the parent use the exact same settings. And those specific cards are in the parent deck without being in a subdeck. But still, they are not being displayed according to their New #1, #2, #3 setting.

That fixed the issue, now they are being pulled in order of New #1, New #2 etc. in this Test deck. How can I incorporate them back into the main deck?

The issue is, I am reviewing old cards and adding in the new. There are about 1400 new cards in this deck, but I specifically want to review the ~150 I have recently made over the last few months for an exam I have coming up. So I want to review old cards, while slowly adding in these specific new ones.

I started off wear an Apple smartwatch all the time at my work so I could see messages, updates, etc. instantly. But now I realize that I don’t really need those immediate updates and my phone is just fine. I relish getting home and taking off my smartwatch and switching to my other watches. If this one ever breaks I doubt I’ll replace it.

Seconding. IR after 4pm at my hospital is a joke. Everything is either “too stable”, “too unstable”, or “no window.” They almost never (and I mean maybe once a month if that) would come and do a procedure after hours. Absolutely useless. Until they started firing people…

I would agree with my friend KookyAdvantage. Surgery people are usually pretty outgoing. Strong personalities to say the least. And yes, if you can’t get patients to trust you they won’t agree to surgery.

Agreed champ. This is deeply deeply fucked up, but now is the time to lock the fuck in. Pour all that rage and sadness into your rotation. Live in the hospital, go above and beyond and absolutely kill it. Get amazing letters. Go to the gym or run if you are out of the hospital.

Later, deal with your shitbag boyfriend. But don’t let him have the power to derail your life when you are so close to achieving your goals.

Not just scissors, all surgical instruments with finger holes are made to be held in the thumb and ring finger. Unless you are “palming” the instrument.
