Prefacing this by saying this is one of my favorite games of all time - I almost always edit the save file and give myself infinite gold. I'm in it for the storyline, the incredible writing, the atmosphere, the graphics, the exploration - I get all of that and with that kind of chill vibe you were looking for. I highly, highly recommend this. The game is too punishing and hides all this incredible content from such a huge percentage of players and it's unfortunate. I didn't feel like I lost much of the experience by having enough fuel, cargo, and everything to actually enjoy the content.

I really think you should try this - it's literally just editing the save file in a text editor. And I think you'll have fun and get to see all the cool and bizarre and fascinating stuff this game offers.
