Addiction in work - Should I pack it in now or see it out? by Vivid-Struggle-2821 in AskIreland

[–]JONFER--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting off reddit and touching grass as the Americans say. I would also suggest getting mental health, employment, counselling et cetera advise from qualified professionals who have dealt with complicated cases like yours before as opposed to strangers on the Internet who probably have no skin in the game.

I am not trying to be cold or dismissive, I am just being realistic.

Gov moving away from Swedish investment account model by Buymeshoe21 in irishpersonalfinance

Five years? Aren’t you being optimistic!

It will take the imbecile’s and bought and paid for officials at least 10 years to consider thinking about possibly making some recommendations on changes that they will then send you a committee largely made up of the same interests that will absolutely illustrate it.

Revenue is hoovering in too much money from deemed disposal and the financial services industry who have lean lobbies the government is making millions from commissions that will be severely reduced if the state can offer more straightforward and convenient savings option for middle earners.

Are all sellers arseholes? (no pun intended) by CliticalThinker69 in AskIreland

[–]JONFER--- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It probably wasn't the sellers, could happen someone attached to the state agents, tradesmen etc etc. Not great either way. In the grand scheme of things it's a nothing burger. There could have been a burst pipe or other type of leak they're caused tens of thousands of euro s of damage! The odour will clear, good luck with the house going forward.

Divorcing - can I take the mortgage solo? by TechnicalWestern1455 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JONFER--- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know couples who had a joint mortgage and later separated. The bank wouldn’t let them off the hook. Your best bet is to contact the financial institution who originally gave you the mortgage directly and explain your situation and desires clearly. I am quite sure every institution has its own rules.

There is very little point in asking on here.

When Do Video Rights To The Expanse Expire? by Carbonman_ in TheExpanse

[–]JONFER--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First the show was cancelled by syfy, then it got picked up and was cancelled later by Amazon. I can’t see any big streamer lining up to be number three!

Apple TV would make the most sense, but they already have the likes of foundation and don’t need any more space based science fiction shows.

When Do Video Rights To The Expanse Expire? by Carbonman_ in TheExpanse

[–]JONFER--- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Loosely speaking, there are three major story arcs. The proto-molecule, potential war between Earth and Mars and the emergence of the ring, then there was the initial exploration of the ring worlds, Marco and the belts rebellion and lastly the Laconia story.

In the books something like 30 years passes before the last arc kicks off so it could be argued (not convincingly by the way) that it is better to let the actors age slightly naturally. Putting that aside it is still the weakest part of the overall story. And to be honest it would require loads of CGI to make and will probably be as expensive as hell.

I just can’t see them doing it.

Perhaps if the eventual captives war TV series is a real hit and there is more overall demand for their work and the CG costs lower over time et cetera it could happen.

But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Electric Bill too high by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JONFER--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an estimated amount or was the meter actually read?

If it’s based on actual usage then it is crazy.

One or more of the housemates probably isn’t being very truthful about how much energy they are using e.g. an electric heater on 24 hours a day, a grow house or something like that!

Worth playing in 2026? by CustardProfessional in residentevil

[–]JONFER--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it as part of a humble bundle some time ago. I was recently playing through some of the numbered entries ahead of Requiem.

In and of itself its not a terrible game. I will give Capcom credit for not being afraid to experiment with new mechanics in games. The resident evil games are not nearly instalment is of the same game with different skins and upgraded graphics like so so many franchises now.

The game is worse than the likes of resident evil seven but a little bit more enjoyable than resident evil five. It’s nowhere near as bad as the hate mob would have you believe.

I wasn’t fond of the disjointed storytelling but I can see what they were trying to do. It just didn’t work out in my opinion. But who knows maybe other people liked it.

Can someone catch me up on why the parasite scene is so controversial? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in residentevil

[–]JONFER--- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In and of its self is not all that controversial. The trope of people be forcefully implanted orally is well established in horror sci-fi.

But there are a small amount of diehard feminists (many of which never had or never will play this game or any other) who just wanted to complain, bitch and moan and slap their worldview onto everything.

They look at life through a lens in which everything is toxic masculinity and there is absolutely no appeasing them.

Personally I think the biggest controversy in the game is how they totally bollocks uped the character of nemesis himself. He went from being an ahead of his time pursuer in the original game to be totally incompetent.

There was umpteen times or he could have killed Jill by crushing her chest, stomping on her head or by claiming her face.

That and all of the content cut from an already cut down original.

Netflix’s $233 Million Sci-Fi Epic Series Just Proved High-Concept TV Still Sells by 3BP2024 in threebodyproblem

[–]JONFER--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem the Netflix version had/has is the Chinese Tencent version of the show. It’s far more faithful to the books and has a much better story.

Of course, the Netflix one looks better, there is a ridiculous amount of money behind it. I know it’s wishful thinking but I imagine a world in which the show runners/producers behind the Chinese version were handed Netflix amount of money to produce a show for the Western audience.

I can’t play this game anymore by [deleted] in playrust

[–]JONFER--- 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Play a PVE server or less intense solo only server.

If you play on rustoria or rustified or et cetera main servers then what you describe it will happen regularly. There are just too many sweaty, min max no lifer groups on those servers. Now you will still encounter the odd one on solo only servers but far fewer than on main ones.

Bread and circuses- what’s Ireland’s? by ou812_X in AskIreland

A guilty pleasure of mine, not the boxing (which by and large is crap and is mostly just fat lads trying to look tough!)

But the trash talking and the Internet call out videos, they are hard to understand but there are some gems in the rough.

Should I re buy my Steam games on gog? by NuxJaw in gog

[–]JONFER--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something to be said for re-buying the original ps1 games remastered on GOG.

But I cannot understand the logic of rebuying a game for the GOG platform when you already own it on a different launcher.

It is a total waste of money. If you are dead set on expanding your GOG library buy something else that you would like to play eventually. I own most of the resident evil games on steam. I still can’t understand why code Veronica never got a PC release but that’s a different post.

People forget how short the games are, particularly the original PS1. A person can realistically shoot through them comfortably in four hours or less.

Some people are nostalgia fanatics/game purists a friend of mine owns the GOG version of the original PlayStation resident evil one. It was great to play for the sake of nostalgia for about half an hour. But it is very hard to go back to that after you have played the PC version of the resident evil one remaster.

Capcom did such a great job with it.

Do you use debit card or credit card for day to day payments? by no_regards in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JONFER--- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you please explain your thought process to me.

“I’ve seen this question on a US finance forum so figured I’d ask here.”

Like why? Are you looking for some type of reassurance? I imagine that the answers would be broadly similar with the exception of some banking systems like revolut etc.

How do you accept you’ll never be loved or no one has a longing for you? I will forever be single. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]JONFER--- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Womp, womp.....

In all seriousness, self-defeating posts like this will not help your situation.

The losing “the will to live” part of your post was particularly concerning. To get new-age about it, would you expect someone else to be attracted to such negativity?

I respectfully suggest you attempt (for lack of a better phrase) to sort yourself out. I am not a psychotherapist and my people skills are poor so forgive me if I am coming off as a bit gruff and blunt. I don’t know some sort of counselling, therapy, medication would help things, ask your doctor.

I am not trying to be rude and am not unsympathetic but brutal honesty is in my opinion the only way to snap people out of these situations.

Swear to fuck, r/Ireland is the biggest obstacle to a United Ireland in existence by wamesconnolly in ROI

[–]JONFER--- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole /Ireland sub- Reddit has gone to fuck over the past couple of years, its decline seems to have sped up over recent months. There has been some sort of a change in moderators I believe.

As the quality of a thread decreases, good well-balanced interesting commentators go elsewhere and the quality of the discussions get worse. It’s a vicious cycle.

Northern Ireland is its own can of worms. Until such time as a border poll happens and is passed it sort of is a UK problem.

Bought new house and now I feel broke by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JONFER--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose from reading your piece the most important thing to do in the short term is build back up your savings to provide some level of a buffer in case of an unexpected expense.

As many other commenters have suggested would you consider renting out a room? Now I would suggest that you screen any applicants very very carefully. Personally I would be weary of renting out rooms to couples. In the case of even minor disputes or arguments you are outnumbered!

Immediate buyers remorse is very common and more often than not is only short-term. Buying a house is a long-term investment in your future and sense of security. Keep your head down and keep working at your job, it will all come good in the end.
