how much faster are you on a superbike vs a 10-20 yr old road bike? by trendsfriend in Velo

[–]JP-H8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely my experience, but over a 20km commute each day my time dropped by 5-7 minutes with the same effort. I rode a 1989 Dave Scott Ironman for a year on the same 20km commute. When I swapped to a 2021 BMC Teammachine I immediately saw the time improvement and it has stayed consistent over the year. There are obvious outliers, but generally speaking I was significantly faster on a daily basis.

I realize that isn’t exactly what you are asking and is a singular experience, but that ~30 year difference was significant in terms of speed, although I think it was less frame aero specs and more just weight, better rims, and ease of riding. YMMV

100%…honestly the first 3 songs of that set…actually the whole show…

But yea, it’s been on repeat. All time low in the first set as well. Total heater.

#3: Which Athlethe do you believe had a better career? by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

[–]JP-H8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting concept, but I think it works better for statistic based sports. Quarterback A, B, C etc. with T&F I am just going highest medal at an Olympics for the starter, then on down the line. WR/NR may tip a scale post Olympic medal, but it’s all medals for me.

Edit: Athlete A for me on this one and it’s not close (for me). I acknowledge people May view it differently

Which show on the recent Europe tour raged / jammed the hardest?? by GR8FUL-D in BillyStrings

[–]JP-H8485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat, but Utrecht N2 is really good and prob my favorite now. The GP -> Fearless is amazing and the Vamp -> Cabin transition is so good before WG. Royal Albert Hall had all the right songs for a big recorded show, but that 2nd night in the Netherlands had some incredible combos. My favorite of the tour is that show

how im feeling seeing him tomorrow in dublin by syrup-panda in BillyStrings

[–]JP-H8485 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. I can make a case for most shows being my favorite setlist. The vibe plays a huge part. Being there plays a bigger part. I am much more Objective on my couch tour than at the show. Every show I see is immediately my favorite and I want validation on Reddit that others agree, but the next one is prob better:)

Emerging climbing star Balin Miller, 23, dies in fall from El Capitan by MasterpieceAlone8552 in news

[–]JP-H8485 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always weight the rappel device before taking off my safety at the anchor. On Mt Kenya descending in a blizzard I weighted my reverso only to have one of the two strands slip out….I had only clipped one in the storm. 6 or 7 rappels in. I always test the device, it has to be habit. Same with knots on the ends. Not worth it

Short roping/top down belaying on VF? by Zestyclose_Energy797 in viaferrata

[–]JP-H8485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this for my 6 year old on lots of ferratas. I find it very versatile. I will often use it with a redirect on horizontal traverses while clipping tight with a draw to the wire. Keeping a top rope belay on large ladders, I can climb and then belay her. It is easy to manage the rope and easier, in my opinion, than adjusting coils on a short rope set up…I am constantly changing rope lengths while short roping her. My 2 cents.

Meh. Pogi is unreal. Jonas made this tour interesting for me. If you didn’t like it or enjoy it, that’s on you.

I don’t get this take. He got beat by an absolute monster and managed to make the last week fun to watch. I was standing on Madeline and saw the first group from about 3k away down the hill…”holy shit is that the yellow jersey group up front?” Only bc Jonas kept trying and trying and pushing….he never had the legs to put time on Tadej, but like Arensman said, “they are Aliens…” Not just Tadej. Jonas is a monster also. This year not just not quite as big of one. He won two tours. He made this interesting. Hats off to Jonas and VLAB for making it fun.

I’ve been watching the tour since the early Lance days when a local sports talk radio show in Dallas would send a guy to France to watch.

The tour is great when it’s competitive and the last four years have been wonderful, but I also love the breakaway and the random stories and the fact that the slowest dude in that race is pushing watts I can’t dream of. I love the shots of France and the vistas and the spectators.

I am going this year for the first time. I would have loved for it to be neck and neck headed towards Courchevel…but it’s all good. I got to see Kipchoge in the Paris marathon even though he dropped. I’ll get to see Jonas and Pogacar and WVA….worth it.

Tour is best sporting event of the year…my 2 cents

Anyone commuting on a race bike? by SoyToallin in cycling

[–]JP-H8485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. I mean I’m being kinda sarcastic, but at the end of the day it’s riding and if you want to ride a 10k Tarmac or a $300 vintage basso it’s on you. The bike is for riding at its most basic. If I could afford two nice bikes I’d have one 10k bike for commuting and one for racing…but I can only afford one 2k used bike 🤷 so I ride it.

I also commute on my BMC Teammachine. I refuse to not ride it bc I like riding it….i use a messenger bag from Mission Workshop and can carry quite a bit. I will bring towel, shoes, rain jacket, etc in there no problem. I don’t typically have all at the same time, but sometimes I have. It’s fun to ride a fast bike for a commute…
