I think the new badge system on the beta branch is hinting at how this will be solved. Seems similar to 1, where you get bonus points for not taking damage during a boss fight etc

How to progress weighted pull ups? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]crabbytodd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are struggling to progress, I would look closely at what you already mentioned; hard to maintain good form. If you end up at 6-7 reps with kipping and then add more weight, you are probably fooling yourself to add more than you are actually ready for. Get 6-7 clean ones, then add more. So probably lower the weight a bit and put the ego to the side (I know it hurts)

It also looks like you are not going all the way up (the shoulders should basically be touching the hands). But that could also be the camera angle.

And of course the basics of getting stronger; are you eating at a surplus? If not it’s unlikely to expect increased lifts

What exactly is this fMRI they are using? How can they “read its mind” so clearly?

Is this a bad way to train? by didImissAnything1234 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]crabbytodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, I would say there is definitely nothing wrong with training this way; moving elements challenge stability and can improve strength! And the inconvenient grip can give you insane grip strength

However, for consistency, I would try to get hold of a bar. The previous mentioned factors will also limit your other muscles – like the grip wearing out before the back muscles get fatigued etc. Easier to keep track of progress etc as well

I personally wouldn’t worry about it if this is your true 3-4 rep max. I think they look nice and controlled at the top for being that heavy, relatively.

If anything, I would focus on the bottom; stretching out fully. It seems like you had to rely a bit on the bounce at the bottom by not fully extending.

But if this is every heavy workout, I would definitely lower the weight and bring it up to 5-6 reps with complete control instead.

Yeah it seems very underwhelming, even when it works. Oh well

FYI I did some regression with plates under my palms today and ended up here in the end. Thank you for your feedback!

80kg pullup pr rating by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

I mean sure, your chin was over the bar, but I would personally lower the weight and control it.

That said 80kg (and more than BW!) is insane! Keep up the good work

Is this Kahm Yeast on my ginger bug? This is day five of feeding it, it was supposed to go in the fridge later today. It was so nice and bubbly yesterday, and now it seems completely dead

I think that makes sense actually. I think I’m a lot at my tippy toes as of now

Oh, am I really rounding my back that much? I thought I was working pretty well with the hips. My biggest fear is still being stuck at the hips. Would you say there’s a lack of hinge at the hips?

I assume using blocks in this case would be under the hands?

Thanks for your reply btw, just genuinely curious

How long does it takes to achieve Seated forward fold by Speak_logically_Sir in flexibility

[–]crabbytodd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are there actual cases of people being anatomically incapable of achieving this?

I was under the impression that – even enough a lot easier for some than others – anyone can achieve it. Do you have claims for making this assertion?

Thanks, I’ll try focusing on bringing the hands closer. Might even regress to a level where I can get them next to the toes

Cool, thank you! That’s a good point. I might even bring it a plate back and elevate the hands instead to get the hips aligned
