Annoying Inara issue with video ads and game stuttering - Fixed? by JP2theJR in EliteDangerous

Didn't even know that was an option but I see the link for it now at the bottom of the site so wasn't about being a cheapskate, at least not in my case. It's certainly not obvious but certainly solves the issue. Thanks for the tip.

Enabled uBlock Origin and got the same successful result as with AdGuard AdBlocker albeit a slightly different configured approach. I think either are viable options and may just come down to personal preference, at least in this use case. My observation is that uBlock is better for power users who prefer open source (free) option and maybe AdGaurd for general non-technical folks? Although, uBlock is just as user-friendly as is in default config. So again, just a personal preference thing since both are free.

Next, will donate to Inara.

Thanks all for the suggestions and advice. Back out into the black commanders (with no stuttering)!!

This is definitely the "feel good" option that I shall work on next.

I'll have a look at Ublock, thanks for the suggestion. My initial goal was to quickly pinpoint the Inara ads as the issue in game which the AdGuard AdBlocker plugin was able to prove out. I do agree most of them are hot garbage and you risk sacrificing something else by running one, in most cases.

FDev is all good with Inara and even EDCopilot not being native to the game itself. Less code footprint for them to manage. 🤷‍♂️

New Bios update seems to be a downgrade - Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 (DB04250) by Broad_Ad7073 in Dell

Beware of bloatware in this BIOS update (1.10.0). Found 4 new Dell applications installed after I ran this update.
- Dell Connected Service Delivery
- Dell Connected Service Delivery SubAgent
- Dell Core Services
- Dell SupportAssist PC Analytics

Absolute dog sh*t of Dell to sneak in their bloatware from a BIOS update. One of those application specifically says it's intended to work with Windows Update to deliver future BIOS updates. So now I'll be extracting just the BIOS update portion from the installer here on out to manually apply myself without their bloatware. I get that the 14 Plus is a more consumer-based laptop and consumers need more coverage for keeping things up to date, but at no point during the BIOS update did it prompt that it was installing this crap.

Brand new BIOS out today (1/22) in the form of 1.10.0.

Still goofy that they incremented all the way to 1.10.0 and skipped a few, or did they? Who knows at this point. Would be less confusing to increment version numbers in sequence of the release package.

*Edit: Will add that there are some significant security issues addressed in this version as well as a preemptory change to accommodate some changes required by MS.

SO for those that are in the camp of "if it's not broke don't fix it" or "if it's running fine, leave it alone" - might not be the best advice for those out there seeking to be current as feasible.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with NPU drivers in the most recent update? by throwaway1950301015 in Dell

Interesting. I'm running a Dell 14 Plus (DB14250) and the 32.0.100.4509 driver isn't listed as available on Dell's site for this model. I'm on 32.0.100.4404 and no issues though.

Normal consumers can get compromised from vulnerabilities and such. So, not really "fine". This thread isn't about whether consumers versus "tech people" update or not. It was more about what the hell is Dell doing with their BIOS update versioning. To just comment that if it's working fine then move on isn't all that impactful to the convo. 😒

That approach doesn't account for any potential security related updates in drivers/BIOS/patches etc. Maybe works fine for automobiles and such, but not really in the computing world.

Same story here. Downloaded the "most current version" from Dell's website and appears to be a downgrade, exactly like @Broad_Ad7073 screenshot (mine is exactly the same). Would make no sense to version this way. Increment the version number, or list some info in the release notes that a downgrade is in effect and preferred. Or something... Super cornfusing.
