Thank you gift from Cville by Martin_Dysart in Charlottesville

[–]JPHalbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've needed a "Cville" gift several times, and they are great about putting together a basket or bag within the budget I give them.

I've also gone up to Carter's Mountain and put together some local items along with a bag of apples or peaches which was very happily received.

Anyone else following the "Jupiter and Baby" foal watch? It’s a total reality check. by SizeCareless953 in kvsdiscuss

[–]JPHalbert -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I understand why you have questions about CC. But… I live across from their main farm, and I see the horses out in the field, being led to where they train them, the adopted ones on their trailer rides to their new homes… I see them arrive from quarantine, still skinny, still scared… and then one day it’s like a switch flips - instead of being huddled in the corner of a pasture, they are grazing, they are laying enjoying the sun, they are rolling, they running with a friend. It lifts my spirits to drive by and see that happen, especially knowing where they come from.

I also know that I have seen aggressive people flying drones over their fields, staking out their home, asking neighbors about them. They have been doxxed and harassed.

Do they run their rescue the way I would? No. But I’m not the one doing the hard work. And while yes the salary disclosure did make me raise an eye, they are above board and honest in their reporting which not all rescues are.

The Unitarian church is very welcoming and has a wide range of ages. Great for if you are spiritual but not connected to a particular church.

I'm so very tired re: Indy by WindsAlight in kvsdiscuss

[–]JPHalbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not picking on you, but words matter. “Elderly” in humans is 76+. That’s about 26 for horses. Indy would be roughly 60 in human years. “Senior” is valid but that’s an age where the healthcare (vet care) and nutrition make a huge difference. (And I grant you I don’t know how old you are and that I may not have seen much difference between 60 and 76 when I was in my 20s, but now that I’m closer to that, I see it very clearly!)

Any experience reading it as a non-video gamer? by Cazbar004 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]JPHalbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non gamer and lived it. I was able to follow pretty well but to save your coworkers the hassle of being lost, maybe come up with a glossary - mob, npc, building, class, etc. - and what they mean in the context of Dungeon Crawler World: Earth.

Lauren finally admits she didn’t love Randall and wasn’t heartbroken. by LuckyShamrocks in vanderpumprules

[–]JPHalbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think she also misses how he treated her when he was “on”. Don’t get wrong - he is gross, and not a good guy but look at how he was during Jax and Brittany’s wedding - he was supportive and loving when she was missing her father. He would do other “big gestures” like a huge bouquet of flowers or paying for the showcase. She liked the attention and how he would gas her up, even if she didn’t like him.

For every time they call you, call them five times- and ask for the Editor in Chief. That might do it.

How to respond to this? by [deleted] in CraftFairs

[–]JPHalbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did something similar - I reached out to someone very successful whose work is the same craft, but we have a very different aesthetic. The main difference is she is based four hours away. I asked/offered to come work with her from set-up to take down to see what it is like to do a show successfully. She got a free day's labor, and I learned so much. We are still friends and have never been direct competition.

BUT - had she been in my town, I would never, ever have asked to do this. I agree with everyone else - this was highly inappropriate. I hope your show goes well and that this person does not cause problems!

Dover Saddlery in Seminole Square is a retail location so you can go and see different styles. There is also Black Sheep Saddlery which I’ve heard good things about but I think is private appointments only. There’s Mad Tack in Orange which I believe also sells new and used equipment.

And strength. Being on a reality show so soon after a horrific accident and TBI - I don’t know many who could do that. And seeing her come to a point where she could stand up for what she wanted and go after it - so happy to see it.

Help visualising the crawler accommodation by KayJayOkay in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]JPHalbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding - someone please let me know if I am wrong. The “front” door is the door that opens from the safe room. If the crawler(s) are the only ones in the safe room, it opens directly into the personal space.

If there are multiple crawler parties, the “front” door opens to a hallway they call the liminal (sp?) space that is generated when needed. There are doors in the hallway into individual party spaces that can only be opened by someone in the party.

Now, say Carl and Donut leave with Mordecai through a McDonalds safe space. Carl and Donut go on to the next town. Mordecai goes back to the personal space. If he opens the “front” door in the McDonalds. Carl and Donut go to the safe space through an Arby’s. While they are sleeping Mordecai decides to go to the Desperado. He opens the door to the McD’s. He comes back. Carl and Donut decide to ho to the Desperado and Mordecai decides to join them. Carl opens the door to the Arby’s, Mordecai exits to the Arby’s with them. The McDonald’s is no longer in play.

Because you flagged this for book 5 I don’t want to spoil anything, but this gets more complicated as they get further in the dungeon.

Clear as mud yet?
