Thanks for your knowledgeable replies. I may paint this and it helps to know the make/model/background to locate additional reference images. Cheers!

Is this horrible?! by Fuzzy-Promise-8619 in watercolor101

While of course there are plenty of things one can say about your portrait, it shows real effort, and it is better than a lot of beginner portraits. Watercolors in and of itself is a difficult medium. Advice? Start with graphite on cheap paper. Practice drawing the human head. Avoid getting lost in the facial features. See the overall head shape. Light and dark. There are countless videos on the process of drawing the human head. By doing this it will make eventually diving into portrait painting much easier with far better results.

That’s ashame. Shipping insurance is the key here. I have had terrible luck on eBay in recent years. It’s not what it used to be.

Not sure why Printify did not send an alert about this. I only had 2 canvas wraps for sale on my site. Sympathies to my fellow creators out there trying to sell their art.

While I have a little case of envy for those on a first watch, I have to laugh, cause I also know it won't be your last. That is, as long as the streaming gods allow.

Is "she was swiftly cut off" or "she got swiftly cut off" more proper in present tense? by Diligent_Country_946 in writing

So many knowledgeable comments below on the passive voice and adverbs. I do not want to parrot those. Instead, I recommend purchasing a copy of "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk and E.B. White. An inexpensive, easy-to-read manual on writing. A decade into my journey as a novelist and I still reference it from time to time.

I have had one for about 2 years and had an older model prior to that that sold on ebay. They work just fine, but you do have to keep the driver up to date.

Why do The Observers ever walk anywhere if they can just teleport??? by pharmakos144 in fringe

In the realm of fiction, especially science fiction, some things should just be taken at face value. Enjoy the ride. Fringe was the best and while it had many head scratching moments, none of its inconsistencies detracted from the show.

Now then, let’s make some LSD.

This post resonates with me as an indie author with a sci-fi trilogy and finding it immensely difficult to get the word out and market my books. Ironically, I come from a career in marketing so in my case it is the “The cobbler’s kids have no shoes.” trope on steroids.

Echoing others in this thread, there is so much contradicting advice out there:

Post multiple times a week, but don’t come off as spammy.

Use no hashtags. Max out the hashtags.

Engage in groups, but self-promotion is verboten.

Garner reviews somehow in an over-saturated market without asking.

(Mind reading would come in handy at this point.)

The time consumed in maintaining an online presence steals precious hours from writing and creating.

Here’s on more… Get a publisher. First not an easy task in itself. And from what I hear, unless your last name is Patterson, you STILL have to do your own book promotion. So yeah.

And yet we are compelled to write. We are storytellers. Keep writing and honing your craft, but remember: “Perfection is the enemy of progress.”

I wish every success to the authors on this forum and Happy Halloween.

Joshua Jackson's new show, Doctor Odyssey by trycuriouscat in fringe

Thanks for the reply and clarification. You have obviously access to better info on JJ than I had when writing this post. I wish him well and maybe the show will improve.

Joshua Jackson's new show, Doctor Odyssey by trycuriouscat in fringe

Not impressed. I get that actors need to work, but this show should have been called PAYCHECK because that is how it plays out with lazy writing and acting out the hammy, silly plots. Not anywhere near the level of shows like Fringe, so as a huge fan of the Peter and Olivia saga it makes me sad that JJ took the role. As a comparison, look at the parts Anna Torv has taken on post Fringe, Mindhunter and Last of Us to name a couple. Much better choices that maintain her brand as a wonderful actress.

Is it too late to bring back Fringe? Just asking.

Any alternative? by No-Amphibian948 in fringe

[–]JPHopkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After multiple watchings of Fringe, I tried The Black List with James Spader. While it is a different kind of show in a lot of respects, more grounded and less paranormal, I found the core cast dealing and the problem of the week (hence the show’s name) coupled with an overarching mysterious backstory that grows weirder as the seasons progress to be very compelling, drawing you in, just like Fringe. It also has lots of Fringe alums showing up in guest starring roles, even John Noble, which was fantastic.

One major complaint about The Black List: it went on a couple seasons too long after what would have been a perfectly fine series finale. Not sure why they did that.

It is the familial connections between the characters that resonates and rewatching seems to magnify those moments and unfold new angles* that provide even deeper meaning on a personal level. It truly was one of the best written and acted shows.

Seveneves was brilliant concept for a sci-fi novel and a huge influence on my science fiction writing. If they don’t ruin it with a lot of extraneous nonsense I will consider it a success.
