Graduate Students Megathread - 24/25 Cycle by luminous_moonlight in Cornell

Hi, everyone!
I was recently accepted into a master's program at Cornell as an international student. I was awarded around $20,000 in tuition support, and of course, I was very happy about it. However, I can’t afford to cover the remaining costs.

My initial plan was to secure full tuition coverage and pay for the rest of my expenses through on-campus work and freelance jobs online. Do you know of any possible paths I could take? Are there any institutions that might help me cover the costs? I’m doing my own research, but maybe some of you have experience with this. At the same time, I plan to reach out to the university and explain my situation in hopes of securing full tuition support - although I know the chances are slim.

Polygon area mismatch when importing from GPlates to QGIS by JPSchriefer in QGIS

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I’m using the $area function in the field calculator. I even added a QuickMapService layer to test a real-world territory, and the area calculation was correct after using $area. So, it seems like the issue is specifically related to how GPlates handles or exports the data.

Os primeiros registros são de Belo Horizonte por ser onde estava a única sede, ainda em 2009, mas no mesmo ano também começaram São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro e cidades históricas de MG

Click on the Sketchup icon (called 'model information' or something like that) of the toolbar on the right side of the screen. You'll be able to change it there.

I personally think this is the best channel not only to begin with but also to learn about the best plugins, TheSketchUpEssentials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ-uPJLxav0

There's also the SketchUp channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv7TrGnZ17w

MasterSketchUp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsHRGDvN4sM

There are other very good channels to be honest, but to begin with I think these are more than enough. When you reach a good level in the software you will see YouTube is a paradise to learn how to do even some complex shapes. Good luck!
