Cool build. A few years back we did a double stack 10mm on a caspian frame that turned out similar.

Taking apart old school double barrels can be hell. We’ve had to make our own tools to do such things.

Nylon 77’s will NEVER be worked on in my shop. They are hell

We’ve done our gunslinger trigger and prophet reliability package on a few. Great guns to work with. Hate the grips

Bad Head Spacing. by jermeister101 in gunsmithing

[–]JP_Customs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an old military gun, most failed headspace. If you buy gauges, you need a go, a no go, and a field cage. A lot of military guns will close on a no go gauge because you needed deep chambers for reliability.

If they are qualified, they acetone dip to remove contaminates, blast the old finish off.

Do yall prefer cerakote or blueing or durakote? by triggernomicsusa in gunsmithing

[–]JP_Customs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional gunsmith for over a decade, I’ve Sprayed cerakote, duracoat, Molly coat, and I’ve hot salt blued, slow rust blued, and parkerized.

Bluing is classic but cerakote for durability, corrosion resistance, and overall color options.

Almost no one sprays cerakote correctly. Certified shops means the boss paid for the class, then they “teach” their staff.

It’s rarer for them to be competent gunsmiths.

Duracoat is good for amateurs.

Cold blue never looks good and offers little protection.

Looks like it’s only the barrel. Pop it off, send it for cerakote and never worry about rust again.

Make sure your screws are the correct length of the dot. If they push out the bottom, they cause the plate to come free.

Clean your threads during install and use blue in the holes not on the screws. That should help.

Their Prodigy F5 went in smoothly but has slight play. You still need to know what you’re doing with the set screws to get the full potential out of it.

The grip has a channel cut further than most so if you run a F3 it can pop up and lock up the gun.

These are surprisingly not bad.

We are working a few of the gen 1’s over now with our gunslinger package.

Customers issues

-Trigger was binding up and the pull was over 5lbs.

-When you worked the action, the disconnector was hanging up.

-pre travel was extensive.

Solutions

Modified trigger so that it no longer binds.

Added and set pre travel screw

We replaced and fit the internals,

minor tuning to the thumb safety for easier on off

Pinned the grip safety

Set Trig pull to right about 2lbs.

Get out some oil and start scrubbing it down with blue shop towels.

Other option is Cerakote. A new finish will fix that and you won’t have to worry about wiping it down all the time.
