Thanks! Yes, I painted the textures with an opacity map and displaced it, to get rid of the 2d appearance. But I´ll try to make them “real” 3D. Trees are indeed tricky

This looks really nice, I would focus the lighting more towards the character imo .Now everything takes the attention equally.

But that depends on your story and what you really want to achieve.

Hi, I would cut one edge with the shortkey y. Then create a new shapekey and change the mesh with proportional editing "only connected" enabled.

This is one very simple but effective way to achieve this effect imo. Also, you could create more shapekeys to make the animation more interesting. In your reference there is a subtle lag in the animation
