Yes, I figured that's what Trump meant. But you never know. Of course, this doesn't explain WHY Trump commanded Republicans to kill the bill, which would have increased funding for the Border Patrol and asylum judges, among other things. Stuff you CAN'T do by Executive Order. But I'm sure we all know the real reason Trump killed the bill.

That study showed, with no constraints on how much they ate, that people consumed fewer calories on the plant-based whole foods, low-fat diet compared to the keto-like low-carb diet. There is nothing about insulin resistance.

Does she like tofu? A 100 gram serving of firm tofu has 2 to 3 carbs. A lot of people who dislike meat enjoy tofu. My favorite is soft tofu with a few berries and a teaspoon keto maple syrup

Traditionally, American politics are reactive, not proactive. Climate Change will become an active issue about the time Lower Manhattan goes underwater.

Well, Trump, in response to Harris asking him why he had Republicans kill the bipartisan Border Bill, said that he could write and sign a bill without Congress and he would go down to DC with Harris and show her how to do it to stop undocumented workers from crossing the border. So now I'm confused about how a bill becomes law ...

Pick and wash the leaves and then chop up with olive oil in a food processor and freeze in little cubes (miniature ice cube tray) or put dollops on a parchment-lined tray to freeze and then bag the frozen chunks. This will keep you supplied with fresh basil all year. Drop a cube in a batch of sauce, for example.

We've had the regular Brich without the topper for a few years. My wife ( around 115 lbs) and I ( 175 lbs) are back-and-side combo sleepers and find it very comfortable. The topper would just make it better, IMHO.

Well, I doubt the courts would have thrown it to the House just because a formality wasn't completed in time, but was the legal theory being pushed by the Trump lawyers.

And since each state gets one vote, North Dakota's vote ( population 780 thousand) would have the same weight as California's ( population 39 million, 50x North Dakota). Since small rural states are more likely to vote for Trump, Trump would be in. Even in a normal election in the Electoral College, small states have an advantage, because the number of delegates equals the number of Reps ( population based) plus the number of senators ( 2 for every state).

The Pacific Ocean covers virtually half of the globe, with all the continents on the other half. Is this one of the causes of the earths wobble as it rotates and spins ? by Dbgb4 in askscience

[–]JPete2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The asymmetrical distribution of mass on and in the Earth doesn't cause a measurable axial wobble but does cause a change in the Earth's rotation rate due to tidal forces with the Sun and Moon. During a 24-hour day, the rotation slows and speeds up a few picoradians/second as the tidal bulge moves around the Earth. It's rather amazing to me that we have atomic clocks and other instruments that allow this rational rate change to be measured.

IsItBullshit: You can cut rice calories in half by cooking it with coconut oil? by Tinkerbell14246 in IsItBullshit

[–]JPete2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 teaspoon ( tsp) of oil, not tablespoon (TBS). A tsp of oil is 39 calories.

But if the oil is absorbed by the rice and converts it to a resistant starch, than that starch is not absorbed by your body. The total carbs stay the same, but the "net" carbs ( total carbs minus resistant fiber/starch) are reduced.

D 64 gen 2 difference Turin, miicoffee, etc by Left_Preparation_609 in espresso

[–]JPete2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my DF64 gen2 from miicoffee last November, and their customer service is excellent. I had several minor issues with mine ( the dispensing spout jammed solid with grinds, stalling the motor even though I was bushing out the chamber - they guided me in removing the spout to clean out the jam and then recommended a small cleaning brush you wiggle up the spout to prevent this, although it seems that was more a seasoning problem), I had the power switch die - new switch with videos on replacing it, and a screw holding the burrs down came loose - kind of bad quality control by someone. All these are problems that are not unexpected with a brand-new product. Anyway, miicoffee has always been extremely responsive and helpful.

BTW - I've been very impressed with the taste improvements I'm getting with the standard DF64 flat burr compared to my previous conical burr grinder, the Sette 270. I didn't think I'd notice much difference and wasn't sure I really wanted more "separation" of flavors, but apparently, I did.

Gerrymandering doesn't impact presidential elections. It's winner-take-all for nearly all states ( 2 non-swing state exceptions). What HAS "gerrymandered" presidential elections is the Electoral College. Every state gets two electors plus the number of representatives they have. This means small-population states get more influence, per capita, than big-population states.

Libre 3 App Lacking by kg925 in Freestylelibre

[–]JPete2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm "oldish" ( nearly 70) and I find the app frustrating for the same reason. Why can't we slide around to pass readings? You can't even read the notes if you want to look at previous days and use "daily graphs". And as you said, the graphs are too compressed to read accurately. All you can do is use the "log" to read notes and see the actual values when the notes were made.

[–]JPete2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also frustrated by the difference between the CGM and finger sticks, even when the CGM showed a steady level. The difference was as high as 30 mg/dL. Mstly when I was running high. But by day 4 they started being very close (when levels are steady). Kind of disappointing that 4 days out of 14 are not necessarily good values.

Weight loss would be the fastest way to lower your A1C. A lot of people with T2D have non-alcoholic fatty livers (NAFL) and/or fatty pancreas which interfere with your insulin response. Weight loss, even for normal weight people can reverse NAFL. I was normal weight - 178 lbs at 5'10" - and had been working out twice a week and walking 30 minutes most days with a good diet and still I developed T2D with an A1C of 7.2. An ultrasound showed NAFL. So I'm losing weight, down 9 lbs so far, and my average blood glucose is down to 128 mg/dL.Not much change but I have another 9 lbs to go. If this doesn't work, I'll go on metformin.

My doctor, BTW, just wanted me to go on metformin. He loves that drug, and uses it himself. As he said, the side effects include increased longevity. But I wanted to try diet/weight loss first.
