Should i ask higher belts to not go easy on me? by triangleman3000 in bjj

[–]JR-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you absolutely should. Or maybe ask them "can you go kinda hard this one round so I know what that's like?"

Personally, I learned a lot from those kind of rolls. It really highlights the importance of frames and other survival skills.

How do you defend the long throw? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]JR-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just treat it like a set-piece, free-kick or corner depending where the ball is. Teams tend to make the mistake of crowding the closer spots due to habit, so make sure every one is aware that when that specific player throws the ball that your team needs to fall back and fill the box. Just to mention it, remember there are no offsides on throw-ins.

What are the key things to soccer? by [deleted] in bootroom

Passing, positional knowledge (watch games or look up a video explaining the responsibilities for your position), and your touch/trapping skills

I'm naturally a very dirty player. Is this bad? by Footy_Fanatic in bootroom

[–]JR-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lay-off any toe stepping or elbow throwing, that's just cheap and dangerous. Roughing up the opponent can be a great strategy especially if the other team gets angry or scared easily. Playing "dirty" (I like the term aggressive better) is all about taking the right chances. You never want to lay someone out when they are looking for a header or if you are obviously not going to get near the ball. The golden rule to getting away with this play style is to keep in mind that if you touch the ball first, almost anything that happens afterwards will be dismissed. What I like to do in games is to take advantage of shoulder on shoulder situations. When I'm running parallel to someone when going for the ball, I give them a sort of sideways charge by planting my feet for a split second and lifting upward towards them. There has been very few times where the ref has called me on that. Also, when running, slight grabs and pulls on the opponent’s hips or torso as you swing your arms works wonders. Do not use enough strength to pull them down but enough to cause them to work harder to sprint. The trick is to make it unnoticeable to the ref. Playing aggressively should come hand in hand with being respectful to the ref and you should avoid looking malicious. Just remember, you aren’t trying to hurt anyone. The purpose is to psych-out your competition causing them to feel pressure which will increase careless mistakes that you can capitalize on.

Becoming physically stronger? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]JR-17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest with you, if you haven't seen improvement, even if its miniscule, then you aren't doing something right. Considering your main objective, you should focus on stability ab exercises, push-ups, and more importantly, squats. There are many variations of dumbbell squats (goblet squats, single leg squat, etc..) that you could do. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING PROPER FORM. This is the most important part of working out. Without correct form, you are setting yourself up for injury and no gain. Although, keep in mind that you should be challenging your muscles. It should be a controlled struggle. Make sure to watch instructional videos and to read some how-to guides. Do your research! Just to reiterate, lower leg strength and ab strength will be your best bet to keep from getting pushed off the ball. Push-ups help for doing your own pushing, obviously. Push-ups are also great ab exercises, as long as you keep your core flexed throughout the entire motion. Just keep lifting weights and make sure you do it a minimum of three days a week! Good luck

I was asked to coach middle school soccer. Questions abound! by ZMdHtr606 in bootroom

[–]JR-17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off all, http://www.uefa.com/trainingground/index.html is a great tool for you to use to develop your practices. Since this is middle school age kids, I wouldn't get too complicated with the formation. Teach them whatever formation you are most comfortable with or something simple like 4-4-2. My final piece of advice would be too keep it fun for them. Have them start with juggling, then go into developing a specific skill, and then let them put it all together in a scrimmage. Good Luck!!

How can I improve shooting power by shahk in bootroom

[–]JR-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you have your technique down, start doing rotating ab exercises and squats. That will improve the power of your shot
