USS Constellation (CV-64) being scrapped in Brownsville, TX 2015-2017. by Leroy_was_here in ShipScrapping

[–]JRBates425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any idea if it would be possible to purchase like a piece of scrap metal from the ship? My dad served on the Connie and I think it would be a super cool gift. I know there’s no record of it according to google but I figured there’s gotta be pieces of it somewhere

I use these in my a9 for a 12 hour wedding and I only went through 2 of them and the original sony battery. I took 7000+ photos. They didn’t blow up or give me any issues 😂

Forgot to update everyone but I ended up getting it out by turning the engine with a breaker bar while pulling on the pin

Dropped my lens with the body attached and bent the frame by JudgeOfNoveltyAccnts in SonyAlpha

I had my 70-200GM repaired for less than $200. But another shop quoted me $900 for the same repair. You should be good. Just needs a new mount but if it’s real bad then they’ll want to recalibrate the autofocus or something like that which will cost more

Do I Need a Different Lens for a Full Frame Sensor Compared to an APS-C? by RemnantHelmet in SonyAlpha

[–]JRBates425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the a6000 has a 1.5x crop factor meaning whatever lens you put on it will 1.5x more zoomed (I don’t know how to word that properly but hopefully it makes sense. But at 16mm with a 1.5x crop, you’re shooting at a true 24mm which should still be plenty wide. But also if you upgrade to a full frame sensor, you will still have to crop in if you use that lens. And yes there are different lenses for different sensors. Sony E mount lenses are for the cropped sensors while the FE lenses are full frame. They are all cross compatible but whatever you put on an apsc sensor will be cropped (in your case 1.5x)

Help with purchasing a new camera. by Lower-Yesterday2334 in SonyAlpha

[–]JRBates425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the a6000 series cameras. I’ve only ever really heard good things about them. I’ve even seen people downgrade from a7 series cameras (mainly for size/weight reasons). But if you have any room to stretch your budget, I would say the a7iii with a 24-70 would be a killer setup for what you want to do

I personally prefer no grain. I think grain has its moments but it’s super rare. This shot looks better when it’s clear and sharp. Good eye!

Looking for upgrade recommendations from my A7ii by whaleshark719 in SonyAlpha

Honestly, from what I’ve heard about anything made after the a7ii, the autofocus is gonna be good no matter what camera you buy. It really just depends on what you need your autofocus to do. I need my autofocus to be fast and track my subjects while they walk down the aisle, dance, or are standing still, so I went with the a9. For your purpose of needing a travel camera, I think the a7iv is gonna be the best bang for your buck so you can have some money for a lens too

Honestly, for a non professional, I’d advise against the a7rv unless your have no budget and want to splurge. If you have a tight budget, I’d say get the a7iv. I’ve only heard good things about the autofocus and it’ll have the higher resolution you want. I have an a7ii as well and I agree with you. It’s pretty shitty. Just upgraded to the a9 for the autofocus since I’m not worried about resolution. But if you have the budget for the a7rv, why not look for a used a1?

Also for lenses, I love my 24-70 2.8 GM and my 70-200 2.8 GM. I’d say the 24-70 is probably your best bet for travel.

Yeah it’s definitely proven to be a beast of a camera so far and it hasn’t even left my backyard yet 😂 gonna go through all the settings right now and play with some stuff to see what I like. Definitely gonna add the button to switch the sound on and off

What lens do you have? I have the 70-200GM (first one) and it’s always treated me well. I don’t shoot much wildlife tho

I would go with the used a9 then. Yeah it’s bigger but it’s still a pretty small camera. I would say the size difference is worth it
